What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Altium PCB Designer in a remote role, and why are they important?

To excel as an Altium PCB Designer remotely, you need strong knowledge of electronic circuit design, PCB layout, and proficiency with Altium Designer software, usually backed by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Expertise in using Altium Designer, familiarity with industry standards (such as IPC), and experience with version control systems are typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication skills set top designers apart. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality, manufacturable PCB designs efficiently while collaborating with distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Altium PCB Designers, and how can they be overcome?

Remote Altium PCB Designers often encounter challenges such as effective communication with hardware and engineering teams, managing file version control, and ensuring design intent is fully understood without in-person collaboration. Utilizing collaborative tools like version-controlled repositories, regular video meetings, and clear documentation helps bridge these gaps. Proactively reaching out to team members and participating in design reviews also ensures alignment and minimizes errors throughout the project lifecycle.

What is an Altium PCB Designer (Remote)?

An Altium PCB Designer (Remote) is a professional who specializes in designing printed circuit boards (PCBs) using Altium Designer software while working remotely. Their responsibilities include creating schematic diagrams, laying out PCB designs, and ensuring that the designs meet electrical and mechanical requirements. Remote PCB designers collaborate with engineering teams via online tools, review design specifications, and prepare files for manufacturing. This role requires strong knowledge of electronic components, PCB fabrication processes, and proficiency in Altium Designer.

Job description

Technical Learning Experience Designer
Location: USA (East Coast Preferred)
SweetRush has an exciting opportunity for a talented professional to join our Talent Solutions team!
Who We Are
At SweetRush, we believe that when you put people at the center of business, magic happens. As a global leader in learning and development, we blend high-end storytelling, emerging tech like AI and VR, and deep psychological insights to help organizations-from iconic global brands to essential nonprofits-flourish. We are a remote-first, tight-knit community built on a foundation of radical empathy and creative excellence. Our work isn't just about the awards we win with incredible partners such as Hilton, Google, Bridgestone, Adidas, SHRM, and numerous others; it's about balancing profit with a genuine desire to spread good in the world. If you are a caring innovator who believes work should be life-centered and impactful, then this is where you come in...
About the Opportunity
This is a great opportunity for an instructional designer who thrives in technical subject matter. Our client, a company operating in the semiconductor industry, needs someone who can bridge the gap between deep hardware expertise and learner-ready content. You'll collaborate closely with a subject matter expert to develop a growing library of circuit board and electronics modules using Articulate 360, and bring those modules to life with AI avatar video using HeyGen or Synthesia - bringing both design thinking and development skills to every deliverable.

Location: USA (Remote, EST preferred)
Contract Type: Freelance
Project Duration: up to 10 weeks
Project Capacity: 30 hours per week
Start Date: End of June

Hourly Range: negotiable
Your Impact and Responsibilities - Essential functions include:
  • Design and develop e-learning modules on circuit board and hardware topics using Articulate 360, working directly from SME-provided content
  • Partner closely with a technical Subject Matter Expert to extract, structure, and translate complex hardware concepts into clear, learnable experiences
  • Create AI avatar video content using HeyGen or Synthesia to support module delivery and learner engagement
  • Own both instructional design and development end-to-end, maintaining a production pace of approximately one module per week

What You Bring - Required Skills
  • Strong LXD fundamentals with a proven ability to independently take raw technical content and shape it into polished, effective modules with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated comfort with technical subject matter - familiarity with circuit board theory, electronics, or hardware/PCB concepts is required; you don't need to be an engineer, but schematics and PCB terminology should not slow you down
  • Hands-on Articulate 360 development skills - this role requires building, not just designing
  • Experience facilitating knowledge transfer with SMEs, including helping them organize and articulate what they know
  • Ability to ramp up quickly and operate with a high degree of autonomy

Bonus Skills
  • Background in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial training environments
  • Experience developing large-scale module libraries (20+ modules)
  • Familiarity with needs analysis, handoffs and picking up mid-project with existing documentation
