What are alterations?

Alterations refer to changes made to clothing to improve the fit, style, or function. This can include hemming pants, taking in or letting out seams, adjusting waistbands, or modifying sleeves and hems. Professionals who perform alterations, often called tailors or seamstresses, use sewing skills and tools to modify garments based on a client's needs. Alterations can be simple, like shortening a hem, or complex, such as resizing a wedding dress. They help ensure that clothes fit comfortably and look their best.

Alterations professionals typically earn between $20,000 and $50,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of work. Skilled tailors with certifications or specialized tools can earn higher wages, especially in high-end or custom tailoring environments.

These abilities ensure precise, high-quality garment modifications that meet customer expectations and maintain client satisfaction.
