Job description

About the Role:

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Certification in phlebotomy and knowledge of specimen processing procedures.
  • Proficiency in taking and recording vital signs accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization techniques.
  • Strong communication skills for patient interaction and administrative duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a similar clinical environment.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional training in patient care or healthcare administration.
  • Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples accurately and safely.
  • Process and label specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols.
  • Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Manage patient scheduling, answer phones, and handle administrative tasks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards within the clinical setting.
