What is an allied driver?

Allied Drivers are professional drivers employed by Allied Van Lines or similar moving and transportation companies. Their primary responsibility is to transport household goods, office equipment, or other cargo safely across local, regional, or long-distance routes. They are also often involved in loading and unloading items, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining the condition of their vehicles. Allied Drivers must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and good customer service skills. The job can require flexible hours, travel, and sometimes physical labor.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an allied driver?

To thrive as an Allied Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of safe vehicle operation and transportation regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle maintenance tools is typically required. Excellent time management, customer service, and communication skills help drivers interact with clients and ensure on-time deliveries. These skills are essential for maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction in the transportation industry.

What challenges do allied drivers face when transporting specialized freight?

Allied Drivers often manage logistical challenges such as handling sensitive or high-value cargo, adhering to strict delivery schedules, and maintaining compliance with safety and transportation regulations. They may need to navigate variable weather conditions and unfamiliar routes while ensuring the secure loading and unloading of freight. Effective communication with dispatchers, clients, and team members is essential to resolve issues quickly and ensure smooth delivery operations.
