What are oil and gas rotational jobs?

Oil and gas rotational jobs are positions within the oil and gas industry where employees work on a set schedule that alternates between periods of work and time off, such as two weeks on and two weeks off. These jobs are common in remote locations like offshore rigs or isolated fields, where continuous presence is required for operations. Rotational roles help ensure that workers get adequate rest and reduce travel costs, while also maintaining consistent staffing for demanding projects. Typical positions include engineers, technicians, and operators, among others.

What should I expect from the work schedule and accommodations when working in an oil and gas rotational position?

Oil and gas rotational roles typically involve working cycles such as 14 days on/14 days off or 28 days on/28 days off, depending on the company and project location. During your 'on' period, you’ll likely be stationed at a remote site, such as an offshore platform or a field camp, where accommodations, meals, and transportation are usually provided by the employer. While the long shifts and extended time away from home can be challenging, these positions often offer higher compensation and longer uninterrupted time off during your rotations. Teamwork is essential, as you'll collaborate closely with colleagues in a tight-knit environment to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
