Job description

This Medical-Surgical RN opportunity is based in Salem, VA at a 500+ bed acute care hospital that specializes in heart and vascular care through a designated Heart Center, as well as orthopedics and spine care, mental and behavioral health, and cancer care.

The role. As a Medical-Surgical RN, you will assess patient condition at admission and throughout each shift, promptly identifying and communicating changes in status to the care team. You will carry out provider-ordered procedures and monitoring, maintain thorough and timely documentation in the patient medical record, and administer prescribed medications while monitoring for therapeutic response and managing any unintended reactions. A meaningful part of this role involves patient and family education — translating complex medical terminology into clear, accessible language so patients, families, and caregivers fully understand diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care. Positions are available across multiple units, including Oncology and an Ortho Trauma unit, with opportunities to cross-train across acute care settings.

What we're looking for.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree REQUIRED
  • Willingness to cross-train; acute care experience preferred but not required

Schedule. Full-time, mixed nights shift with rotating weekends.

Compensation. $31.70 - $31.70/hr plus $20,000 sign-on bonus
