DescriptionThe Interoperability Architect is a key member of Emory Digital's Growth Team, responsible for designing and implementing interoperability solutions that support the seamless integration of newly acquired organizations, Community Connect partners, and facility expansion initiatives across the enterprise.This role provides architectural leadership for the exchange of clinical, operational, and financial data across internal systems and external partners. The Interoperability Architect collaborates closely with application architects, integration teams, clinical leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure new hospitals, clinics, and partners are successfully integrated into Emory's digital ecosystem.Primary responsibilities include leading interoperability strategy and technical design for mergers and acquisitions, new facility construction or remodels, Community Connect integrations, and other enterprise growth initiatives. Success in this role will be measured by the efficient onboarding of new entities, scalable integration frameworks, and strong collaboration across technical and operational teams. RESPONSIBILITIES: Growth Initiatives: 
  • Serve as the interoperability architect supporting Emory Digital's Growth Team initiatives including mergers and acquisitions, Community Connect partnerships, and facility expansion projects. 
  • Provide architectural guidance during onboarding of new hospitals, clinics, and affiliated organizations. 
  • Collaborate with Growth Team members including Program Managers and Epic application architects to align integration strategies with clinical and operational workflows. 
Integration Architecture: 
  • Design and oversee interoperability solutions supporting secure and scalable data exchange between internal systems and external partners. 
  • Develop integration architectures using healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, CDA, and API-based integrations. 
  • Create reusable integration frameworks that accelerate onboarding of new organizations and systems. 
Mergers & Acquisitions Integration: 
  • Assess technical environments of newly acquired organizations and develop integration strategies for clinical, operational, and financial data. 
  • Coordinate interface development, data exchange workflows, and third-party integrations necessary to integrate new entities into the enterprise ecosystem. 
Facility Construction & Expansion: 
  • Support interoperability planning for new hospital construction, clinic expansion, and facility remodel projects. 
  • Ensure new facilities are designed with appropriate integration capabilities to support clinical systems, medical devices, and external connectivity. 
Community Connect & External Partnerships: 
  • Architect solutions supporting secure data exchange with Community Connect partners and affiliated providers. 
  • Establish scalable connectivity models that enable efficient onboarding of external organizations. 
Governance & Compliance: 
  • Ensure interoperability solutions comply with healthcare regulations and standards including HIPAA, HL7, and FHIR. 
  • Contribute to enterprise interoperability governance, security practices, and architectural standards. 
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Experience supporting healthcare system integrations related to mergers, acquisitions, or large-scale implementations and BMDI/Biomed.
  • Familiarity with Epic interoperability environments or enterprise integration platforms. 
  • Experience with interoperability frameworks such as Carequality, CommonWell, or TEFCA. 
  • Professional certification in health informatics or healthcare IT (e.g., CPHIMS, CHDA). 
  • Strategic thinker who understands how interoperability supports health system growth. 
  • Strong collaborator capable of working across clinical, operational, and technical teams. 
  • Architecture-focused problem solver able to design scalable integration solutions. 
  • Effective communicator who can translate technical concepts into business value. 
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:  Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience; or 9 years of related experience in lieu of degree in healthcare IT, systems integration, or interoperability solutions, with demonstrated expertise in creating innovative data-sharing platforms.
  • Experience/Skills: 
    • Proven track record of designing and implementing cutting-edge solutions for sharing healthcare data, particularly with external healthcare providers, payers, and organizations.
    • Experience working with cloud-based technologies, AI, machine learning, blockchain, and other emerging tech within the context of healthcare interoperability.
    • Deep understanding of healthcare standards and regulations (FHIR, HL7, CDA, HIPAA, GDPR, etc.) and how they relate to data sharing and collaboration.
    • Strong experience in cross-functional team collaboration, working with clinical, IT, business, and external partner teams to deliver innovative solutions.
    • Expertise in building secure, scalable, and innovative data-sharing solutions in healthcare.
    • Proficiency with API design, cloud services, and integration platforms for data exchange.
    • Strong background in data privacy, security, and governance practices as they relate to sharing health data across systems and organizations.
    • Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies that drive innovation in healthcare interoperability.
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to think creatively about overcoming complex challenges in healthcare interoperability.
