Algorithmic Execution Quant information

What is the difference between Algorithmic Execution Quant vs Quantitative Trader?

AspectAlgorithmic Execution QuantQuantitative Trader
Primary FocusDeveloping and implementing algorithms for trade execution to minimize market impactCreating trading strategies to generate alpha and profit from market movements
Work EnvironmentQuantitative research teams, trading desks, technology-drivenTrading floors, portfolio management teams, research departments
Required SkillsProgramming, market microstructure, execution algorithmsQuantitative modeling, market analysis, strategy development

While both roles involve quantitative skills, an Algorithmic Execution Quant specializes in optimizing trade execution processes, whereas a Quantitative Trader focuses on developing strategies to generate profits. The roles often collaborate but serve different functions within trading firms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Algorithmic Execution Quant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Algorithmic Execution Quant, you need a strong background in quantitative analysis, programming (often in Python or C++), and a solid understanding of financial markets, typically supported by an advanced degree in a quantitative discipline. Proficiency with statistical modeling tools, trading platforms, and market data systems, as well as familiarity with technologies like FIX protocol, is crucial. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate across trading, research, and technology teams. These skills are essential for designing, optimizing, and maintaining robust trading algorithms that achieve best execution and mitigate risk in fast-moving markets.

What are some common challenges faced by Algorithmic Execution Quants when developing and deploying trading algorithms?

Algorithmic Execution Quants often encounter challenges such as adapting strategies to rapidly changing market conditions, managing latency and slippage, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. They must also balance the need for innovation with the necessity for robust risk controls and system reliability. Collaboration with traders, developers, and risk managers is essential to refine algorithms and ensure they perform optimally in live trading environments.

What does an Algorithmic Execution Quant do?

An Algorithmic Execution Quant is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing algorithms that execute large financial trades efficiently and at minimal cost. They analyze market microstructure, create models to predict market impact, and work closely with traders and engineers to implement these strategies in real-time trading systems. Their work is essential in minimizing transaction costs and improving trade execution quality for their firm.

Job description

At Veracyte, we offer exciting career opportunities for those interested in joining a pioneering team that is committed to transforming cancer care for patients across the globe. Working at Veracyte enables our employees to not only make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients, but to also learn and grow within a purpose driven environment. This is what we call the Veracyte way - it's about how we work together, guided by our values, to give clinicians the insights they need to help patients make life-changing decisions.
Our Values:
  • We Seek A Better Way: We pursue bold ideas, embrace complexity, and keep pushing forward.
  • We Make It Happen: We act with urgency, deliver with excellence, and always find a way.
  • We Are Stronger Together: We engage with empathy, align around what's best for Veracyte, and celebrate as one team.
  • We Care Deeply: We show up with integrity, kindness, and respect for one another.

The Position:
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Discovery Research team as a Bioimage Scientist focused on tissue-based oncology diagnostics. This role sits at the interface of pathologists, biologists, and AI/ML teams, contributing directly to new assay development, DPAI tool development, biological interpretation, and diagnostic product advancement. This is a wet- and dry-lab role, responsible for developing, optimizing, and validating imaging assays and quantitative image analysis to link biological and clinical questions with interpretable image-derived metrics and features.
Location: San Diego (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
  • Lead conception, design, execution and analysis oftissue-based imaging assays (including H&E, IHC, special tissue stains, multiplex stains, spatial biology).
  • Buildimage analysis workflows to extract interpretable, multi-scale morpho-quantitative biomarkers.
  • Design workflow controls, stress tests, quantification and scoring strategies to establish robust methods that connect biological/clinical hypotheses (e.g., immune contexture, tumor aggressiveness, treatment response) with explainable image-based measurements.
  • Work closely with pathologists to define annotation schemas, perform and oversee WSI annotation to generate high-quality datasets for DPAI algorithm development, model interpretation, etc.
  • Partner withbioinformatics and AI/ML teams to design, develop, test, and refine quantitative image analysis and DPAI workflows, from image QC and annotation strategies to biomarker quantification and explainability.
  • Drive image-based tumor phenotyping and quantitative analyses to characterize tumor, stromal, and immune cell populations, interactions and features.
  • Provide cross-functional technical leadership and mentoring in bioimage analysis, slide management and annotation, and TME characterization.
  • Guide operational deployment of workflows and analytical tools, including automation, scaling, SOP and validation design for CLIA/CAP regulated environments.
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and integrate, as appropriate, commercial and open-source image analysis tools and AI models that enhance diagnostic and research capabilities.
Who You Are:
  • An experiencedbioimage scientist with deep hands-on expertise in tissue-based imaging assays, imaging analysis, quantitative histopathology and TME phenotyping.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic product development.
  • Comfortable operating at the interface of pathology, biology and AI/ML, translating complex tissue phenotypes into structured, quantitative data.
  • Able to work with urgency and ownership in a fast-paced, cross-functional diagnostics environment.
  • A clear communicator who can bridge pathologists, experimental scientists, and computational teams.

Requirements
  • Ph.D. in biology, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, computational biology, or related field (oncology expertise preferred).
  • ≥6 years postgraduate experience, with ≥3 years in regulated industry preferred.
  • Proven expertise in tissue staining assays,IHC, imaging assay development, quantitative histopathology, bioimage quantification, slide annotation and TME phenotyping.
  • Hands-on experience with image analysis platforms (ImageJ/FIJI, or similar), advanced quantification methods (Python, R, or similar), digital pathology annotation (QuPath, CaMic, Omero or similar) and analysis platforms (HALO, Visipharm, etc).
  • Prior experience in developing digital pathology AI solutions, in immune-oncology biology, and TME characterization strongly desired.

#LI-Hybrid
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
