What is an algorithm scientist?

Algorithm Scientists are professionals who design, analyze, and optimize algorithms to solve complex computational problems. They often work in fields like data science, artificial intelligence, finance, and engineering, developing new methods or improving existing ones for processing data efficiently. Their work involves rigorous mathematics, computer science, and research to ensure algorithms are accurate, scalable, and effective for specific applications. Algorithm Scientists may also collaborate with software engineers to implement their solutions in real-world systems.

How does an algorithm scientist typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the development process?

Algorithm Scientists frequently work alongside data engineers, software developers, and product managers to design and implement solutions. They are often responsible for communicating complex mathematical concepts in accessible terms to ensure alignment across the team. Regular meetings and code reviews are common, allowing for feedback and rapid iteration. This collaborative environment helps ensure that the algorithms developed are both technically sound and practically viable for real-world applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an algorithm scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Algorithm Scientist, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, often supported by an advanced degree such as a Master's or Ph.D. in a related field. Proficiency with programming languages like Python or C++, machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and experience with data analysis tools are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are vital for developing innovative algorithms that solve complex problems, ensuring practical, scalable solutions in technological environments.

THE POSITION

Our roster has an opening with your name on it

From research and data collection through production deployment and monitoring, you will build and improve the predictive models and algorithmic decision systems that power automated pricing and trading. Working closely with algorithmic traders, quant engineers, and product teams, you will translate sports, market, and operational data into models that improve price quality, execution quality, market competitiveness, and risk management. This role requires flexibility around the sporting calendar, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays tied to major live events.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

THE GAME PLAN

Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • Develop, iterate, and deploy predictive models and algorithmic decision systems for automated pricing and market making
  • Partner with algorithmic traders and quant engineers to test, deploy, and refine models and strategy logic in production
  • Manage data preparation from collection through cleaning; build robust models with strong feature and model selection
  • Improve quoting, pricing, and exposure-management logic using sports data, market signals, and performance analysis
  • Build backtesting, simulation, and monitoring tools to evaluate model calibration and risk-adjusted performance
  • Construct models and analyses in response to questions from trading, product, and engineering stakeholders
Performance Analysis & Monitoring
  • Create dashboards, diagnostics, and data visualizations for model health, execution quality, and communication
  • Conduct post-event and post-trade analysis to identify opportunities to improve pricing and automation
  • Evaluate model performance using historical results, live observations, and key metrics
  • Work with engineering and product teams to improve trading tools, controls, and operational reliability
  • Contribute to a production code environment; provide feedback on platform behavior and new feature validation

Identify opportunities to use data and models to improve automation, pricing, and business results

THE STATS

What we're looking for in our next teammate

Quantitative & Data Science Experience
  • Experience in data science, analytics, quantitative research, or engineering preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in a highly numerate major (Math, Stats, Econ, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) or relevant experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python or R and SQL
  • Experience building and deploying models for production products and tools
  • Experience with simulation or back testing is a plus
Market Making & Sports Context
  • Interest or experience in sports betting, prediction markets, DFS, or fantasy sports
  • Familiarity with pricing dynamics, market behavior, or real-time decision environments is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work across teams, locations, and time zones
  • Comfortable with command line tools, GitHub, and object-oriented design and coding
  • Flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the sporting calendar
