What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Algorithm Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Algorithm Designer, you need a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and problem-solving, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with programming languages (such as Python, C++, or Java), algorithm development tools, and version control systems is essential. Creativity, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and translate complex problems into efficient algorithmic solutions. These skills are crucial for creating optimized, reliable algorithms that drive innovation and efficiency in technology-driven industries.

What are Algorithm Designers?

Algorithm Designers are professionals who create, analyze, and optimize algorithms to solve complex problems efficiently. They work in fields like computer science, engineering, finance, and artificial intelligence to develop step-by-step procedures that computers follow to perform tasks. Their role often involves understanding the problem at hand, designing a logical solution, testing it, and refining it for better performance. Algorithm Designers collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to implement and scale their solutions. Strong mathematical and analytical skills are essential for success in this role.

What are some common challenges Algorithm Designers face when integrating their solutions into existing systems?

Algorithm Designers often encounter challenges when implementing their solutions into established software or hardware environments. These challenges include ensuring compatibility with legacy code, optimizing for performance given hardware constraints, and balancing accuracy with efficiency. Collaboration with software engineers and system architects is essential to adapt algorithms for real-world applications, address scalability, and maintain system stability. Effective communication and iterative testing are key to overcoming these integration hurdles.

Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.

As a Senior Wireless and Algorithm Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing algorithms for silicon to be used in wireless communication systems within our LEO satellite constellation. This role is critical for ensuring the efficient and reliable transmission of data in advanced satellite communication networks. You will leverage your deep expertise in algorithm design, wireless communication theory, and signal processing to create innovative solutions that meet rigorous performance standards.

This position will report to the Sr. Director of Product and System Integration, Silicon, and will work closely with systems, software, hardware, and test teams responsible for delivering the communications payload. This position is based in our Saratoga, CA office.
What you will be doing:
  • Algorithm Design and Development:
  • Lead the design and development of advanced algorithms for wireless communication systems specially on beamforming and time and frequency synchronizations
  • Develop and implement algorithms for modulation, coding, synchronization, channel estimation, and beamforming
  • Perform simulations and analyses to evaluate the performance of the designed algorithms
  • System Integration and Testing:
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate the designed algorithms into the overall communication system for silicon development
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate algorithm performance on FPGA and ASIC under various conditions
  • Analyze test data to identify performance bottlenecks and refine algorithms as needed
  • Performance Optimization:
  • Optimize algorithms to meet or exceed specified performance requirements
  • Implement techniques to mitigate the impact of physical layer impairments
  • Continuously improve algorithms based on the latest advancements in wireless communication and signal processing
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Document all design, development, and testing processes, including test results and performance evaluations
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in wireless communication technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into the design process
  • Collaboration and Support:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system architects, hardware engineers, and software developers
  • Provide technical support and expertise during system integration and field trials
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and provide constructive feedback
What you bring to this role:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in algorithm design and wireless communication systems
  • Strong background in communication theory, digital signal processing, and wireless communication systems.
  • Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools such as MATLAB, SystemC, Simulink, or equivalent
  • Experience in designing and developing algorithms for wireless communication systems, including beamforming
  • Familiarity with satellite communication systems, particularly LEO networks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
