This specific Sr. Field Engineer position will run a TxDOT project day to day. Manage inspection resources, coordinate with field inspection staff and project manager to ensure properly staffed as well as coordinate testing. This opportunity entails being responsible for coordinating and monitoring inspection efforts in a specific discipline/trade on moderate size and complex projects to determine that Contractor's construction activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with design plans, specifications, and contractual requirements. Responsible for assisting with the resolution of project issues. Plans and conducts tasks requiring the evaluation, selection, substantial adaptation and modification of standard construction engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Reviews submittals by contracts for conformance with the construction contract documents. This role will primarily be focused on TxDOT CEI projects. This position is a lead role to direct, mentor and train junior staff.

What You'll Do:

  • Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Administers KPIs and budget, reads and interprets complex contract documents to ensure compliance.
  • Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
  • Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications, identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. Reviews contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency. Prepares weekly progress reports.
  • Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
  • Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
  • Performs office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; assists change manager and project manager in contractor claims and disputes. Tracks, reviews, processes RFIs and submittals, and performs constructability reviews.
  • Leads daily assignments, mentors, and trains employees. Monitors internal HNTB project controls as directed.
  • Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession. Coordinates schedules and approves timecards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years relevant experience, or
  • Doctorate degree in Engineering and 4 years relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Knows industry standards and best practices for workmanship, materials, etc. so to serve as the subject matter expert (i.e., constructability reviews).
  • Secures and deploys section/department resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Leads the work of the project team in the absence of the PM/RE.
  • Performs advanced shop drawing and submittal review as well as advanced CPM schedule analysis.
  • Professional Engineer (PE)

What We Prefer:

  • Optional: Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • OSHA 10 certified preferred.
  • Experience in SiteManager
  • TxDOT CEI relevant experience
