Data Center Critical Environments Technician
Overview
The Data Center Critical Environments Technician plays a key role in supporting the reliability, safety, and operational readiness of the facility's critical infrastructure. This position focuses on energizing server racks, ensuring proper electrical readiness, and performing HVAC sealing and containment work to maintain optimal airflow, cooling efficiency, and environmental stability across the data hall.
Key Responsibilities
Rack Energization & Electrical Readiness
  • Perform safe and compliant energization of new and existing server racks.
  • Verify electrical infrastructure readiness, including PDUs, breakers, grounding, and labeling.
  • Conduct pre-energization inspections to ensure adherence to electrical safety standards.
  • Document energization activities, load capacities, and configuration changes.
  • Collaborate with deployment and operations teams to schedule and sequence energization work.
? HVAC Sealing & Environmental Containment
  • Install, inspect, and maintain HVAC sealing materials such as gaskets, blanking panels, brush strips, and containment curtains.
  • Identify and remediate airflow leaks to improve cooling efficiency and reduce bypass air.
  • Support hot-aisle/cold-aisle containment initiatives and airflow optimization projects.
  • Perform routine checks on CRAC/CRAH units, ducting, and airflow management systems.
  • Document sealing work and provide recommendations for improving thermal performance.
Critical Environment Operations
  • Assist with routine inspections of electrical, mechanical, and cooling systems.
  • Respond to alarms, environmental deviations, and operational incidents.
  • Follow strict safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and escalation paths.
  • Maintain accurate logs, work orders, and change management documentation.
  • Support commissioning, decommissioning, and infrastructure upgrade activities.
Qualifications
Required
  • Experience in data center operations, critical environments, or electrical/mechanical trades.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety practices and rack power distribution.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems, airflow management, and containment best practices.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, electrical one-lines, and equipment specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Preferred
  • Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, EPA 608, or equivalent.
