Here are some specifics about the role!

  • BR range: $87/hr.  -$123/hr.
  • Additional comp: $8k relocation bonus to assist out of market candidates
  • Fully on-site
  • Opportunity for overtime (50-60 hours/week during commissioning sprints)
  • Abilene and Shackelford are approx. 20-30 mins apart. Once Abilene wraps (in about 3-4 months) candidates will move to support Shackelford.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Mechanical Validation Engineer will validate mechanical infrastructure readiness for data center deployments, expansions, and operational handoffs. This role ensures cooling systems, mechanical equipment, hydronic systems, airflow management, controls interfaces, commissioning evidence, and turnover documentation are complete, accurate, tested, and ready for day-one operations. Qualified candidates must be comfortable working within the Abilene, TX or Shackelford, TX areas for this assignment. Relocation assistance will be provided for selected out-of-market individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate mechanical readiness for new data centers, expansions, retrofit programs, infrastructure readiness milestones, and operational transition activities.
  • Review mechanical commissioning evidence, functional performance test results, integrated systems testing records, balancing reports, equipment start-up records, punch lists, and turnover packages.
  • Verify readiness of critical cooling infrastructure, including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, air handlers, heat exchangers, valves, piping, containment, and airflow management systems.
  • Validate that BMS/controls visibility, alarms, trends, setpoints, and equipment status indicators support mechanical operations and troubleshooting needs.
  • Track mechanical validation findings, readiness risks, dependencies, corrective actions, exceptions, and owner-based action plans using approved deployment tracking tools.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical validation, commissioning, facilities engineering, data center operations, construction support, critical facilities, HVAC operations, or mission-critical infrastructure delivery
  • Experience validating mechanical systems in data centers, industrial facilities, colocation environments, utilities, manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, or other high-availability environments.
  • Working knowledge of data center cooling systems, hydronic systems, airflow management, mechanical redundancy, thermal performance, control sequences, maintenance requirements, and commissioning practices.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with hyperscale data centers, cloud infrastructure, colocation, critical facilities, or large-scale commissioning programs.
  • Familiarity with BMS, CMMS, DCIM, commissioning platforms, ticketing systems, Smartsheet, Primavera, MS Project, Jira, ServiceNow, or similar deployment tracking tools.
