Job description

STS Technical Services is hiring Aircraft Structures Mechanics to support aircraft maintenance and modification operations in Oscoda, Michigan. This role is ideal for experienced sheet metal professionals who take pride in precision workmanship, structural integrity, and compliance with FAA standards.
If you have hands-on experience performing aircraft structural repairs and enjoy working in a fast-paced aviation environment, this is an opportunity to build long-term stability while working on complex aircraft structures.
Position Summary
The Aircraft Structures Mechanic is responsible for repairing, fabricating, modifying, and installing sheet metal parts, components, and assemblies on aircraft. This position requires a strong understanding of sheet metal materials, aviation repair techniques, shop mathematics, and the proper use of tools and equipment common to aircraft structures work.
Key Responsibilities

  • Shoot and buck rivets to specification in accordance with FAA guidelines
  • Identify and work with different aircraft metals based on structural strength and thickness
  • Perform sheet metal bends in accordance with standard aviation practices and specifications
  • Remove and replace existing rivets from aircraft structures
  • Fabricate aircraft components using various sheet metal materials
  • Make repair decisions and understand which repairs are allowable under FAA standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately
  • Work with and around chemicals while adhering to OSHA requirements and PPE standards
  • Complete and maintain accurate job completion and maintenance documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience performing aircraft structural repairs
  • Wide-body aircraft experience preferred
  • Must provide own tools
  • Ability to use ERP systems, timekeeping software, and company intranet platforms
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet company priorities
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to crawl in and out of confined spaces
  • Ability to work in a prone position for extended periods exceeding four hours
  • Comfortable working at elevated heights of up to 40 feet
  • Ability to lift, balance, and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in enclosed hangars and outdoor weather conditions
  • Comfortable working in close proximity to other personnel
