Job Description

Lead a dedicated structures team performing a major modification on ATR turboprop aircraft for an air cargo operation. This role focuses heavily on project administration, task tracking, stakeholder communication, and quality assurance, while also providing hands-on technical leadership in aircraft structural repair and modification when needed. You will coordinate closely with customers, STC holders, inspectors, mechanics, and support teams to ensure the modification is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. Prior to the ATR modification project start, you will serve as a Structures Lead supporting cargo door modifications and heavy checks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structures team performing ATR turboprop aircraft modification work, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with the customer and STC holder, providing project updates and clarifying technical and schedule-related requirements.
  • Request, interpret, and disseminate information and instructions from the STC holder to inspectors, mechanics, and other support teams within the MRO.
  • Track labor hours and resource utilization for the modification project, ensuring work stays within the approved project budget.
  • Organize and manage shift schedules for the modification team, aligning staffing levels with project milestones and operational needs.
  • Collaborate closely with the Stores function to ensure timely and accurate receipt, kitting, and availability of parts and materials required for the modification.
  • Oversee quality assurance documentation related to structural work, including repair records, inspection sign-offs, and compliance with STC and regulatory requirements.
  • Consult with inspectors and mechanics to review work progress, resolve technical issues, and verify that repairs and installations meet approved data and standards.
  • Serve as Structures Mechanic Lead when needed, providing hands-on support to assess progress, identify issues, and demonstrate structural repair or installation tasks.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical data to guide sheet metal and structural repair activities.
  • Use phone, email, and office applications to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, documenting decisions and maintaining clear project records.
  • Provide day-to-day supervisory guidance, coaching, and direction to structures mechanics and technicians assigned to the modification project.
  • Support cargo door modifications and heavy checks as a Structures Lead prior to the ATR modification start, maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in maintenance and modification processes by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and communication.
  • Ensure all work adheres to MRO procedures, STC requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of aircraft structural repair experience, including sheet metal repair and installation work.
  • Proven experience in a lead, supervisory, or other leadership capacity within aircraft maintenance or structures teams.
  • Demonstrated aircraft modification experience, preferably involving cargo configurations or major structural changes.
  • Strong hands-on skills in aircraft structures, including reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience performing and overseeing sheet metal repair, structural installations, and related maintenance tasks.
  • Solid understanding of maintenance practices and procedures within an MRO or similar environment.
  • Proficiency using phone, email, and office applications (including Microsoft Office) to communicate with internal and external stakeholders and manage project information.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with customers, STC holders, inspectors, mechanics, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated administrative and task-tracking capabilities, including labor hour tracking and schedule management.
  • Supervisory skills to organize shifts, allocate work, and provide guidance to technicians and mechanics.
  • Ability to collaborate with quality assurance and inspection personnel to ensure compliance with STC and regulatory requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with STC-based projects and coordinating with STC holders on technical and documentation requirements.
  • Experience in cargo door modifications, heavy checks, or other major structural programs on transport-category aircraft.
  • Familiarity with MRO operations, including coordination with stores, tool crib, and shop support functions.
  • Comfort working with multiple stakeholders and managing expectations across customers, engineering, and maintenance teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, schedules, and resource planning for multi-shift projects.
  • Ability to step into a hands-on Structures Mechanic Lead role when needed to support, guide, or demonstrate tasks to mechanics.
  • Adaptability to work extended hours and variable shifts to meet project milestones over multi-month modification programs.

Why Work Here?

Join a long-term modification program in a scenic outdoor region that offers lakes, mountains, and abundant recreational opportunities such as hunting and fishing. Enjoy a stable assignment with extended per-diem and the potential to transition to a permanent role if desired. The facility supports a collaborative environment where you can grow your leadership skills, contribute to significant aircraft projects, and balance a rewarding career with access to a renowned resort town and natural surroundings.

Standard operations follow 5-hour shifts Monday through Friday, while mechanics on the modification project work in two shifts covering seven days per week. Expect to work approximately 50 to 60 hours per week, with occasional late or weekend hours to collaborate with different shifts and keep the project on track.
