Job description

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company is seeking Avionics Navigation Systems Engineer in Lexington Park, MD. The selected candidate will provide engineering support for the integration, testing, certification, and sustainment of advanced aircraft navigation capabilities across Navy and Marine Corps aircraft platforms. This role supports Performance Based Navigation (PBN), Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Flight Management Systems (FMS), Area Navigation (RNAV), Required Navigation Performance (RNP), and emerging navigation technologies that enable military aircraft to operate safely and effectively within modernized civil and military airspace environments.

This position directly contributes to mission effectiveness, safety of flight, and operational readiness by supporting the successful integration and fielding of next-generation navigation systems.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $140k-$175k annually (depending on experience)
Work Location: Full-time onsite

Essential Functions:

  • Support the integration, testing, certification, and sustainment of advanced avionics navigation systems and capabilities.
  • Provide engineering analysis and technical support for Performance Based Navigation (PBN), RNAV, RNP, GNSS, WAAS/SBAS, and Flight Management Systems (FMS).
  • Support aircraft modernization efforts ensuring compliance with FAA, ICAO, and Department of Defense navigation requirements.
  • Participate in system design reviews, technical evaluations, certification efforts, and engineering studies supporting Naval Aviation platforms.
  • Analyze navigation system performance and assist in troubleshooting technical and operational issues.
  • Support development and review of Engineering Data Requirements Agreement Plans (EDRAPs), flight clearances, certification artifacts, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with NAVAIR program offices, systems engineers, and technical stakeholders supporting Navy and Marine Corps aircraft.
  • Assist in the evaluation and integration of emerging navigation technologies and future airspace modernization initiatives.
  • Prepare technical briefings, recommendations, engineering reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Required:

  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles related to avionics, mission systems, and aircraft navigation systems.
  • Working familiarity with Performance Based Navigation (PBN), RNAV, RNP, WAAS/SBAS, GNSS, and Flight Management Systems (FMS).
  • Understanding of FAA regulations, ICAO standards, and modern civil aviation navigation requirements.
  • Ability to analyze engineering data, technical requirements, and system documentation.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience or academic coursework related to the design, integration, testing, or certification of navigation systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting military aircraft, avionics systems, navigation systems, or mission systems programs.
  • Familiarity with airworthiness certification, flight clearances, or system qualification activities.
  • Experience supporting NAVAIR, Naval Aviation, FAA, or Department of Defense programs.
  • Knowledge of avionics architectures, navigation databases, aviation data links, or civil airspace modernization initiatives.
  • Experience supporting flight test, systems integration, certification, or airworthiness efforts.

Security Clearance:

  • Active Secret clearance required to start. Must be eligible to obtain Top Secret / SCI clearance. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
