Job Title: Airframe Mechanic

Job Description

This role focuses on performing heavy checks and structural modifications on B737 and A330 aircraft within a large maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar and shop campus in Everett, WA. You will work on C checks and cabin modification projects, carrying out complex airframe and interior structural tasks using OEM and engineering drawings, specialized tools, and shop equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform heavy airframe checks and structural modifications on B737 and A330 aircraft, including C checks and cabin modification projects.
  • Carry out heavy interior modifications by removing and reinstalling monuments and other interior structures with precision and care.
  • Accurately locate and install monument hard points on floor structures using appropriate measuring and layout techniques.
  • Repair and replace aircraft component structures in accordance with engineering specifications and maintenance documentation.
  • Repair and modify flight control surfaces and associated components following approved procedures and standards.
  • Use special installation tools, including blind rivet guns and other fastener tools, to install and secure structural components.
  • Interpret and utilize OEM and engineering drawings to perform structural modifications and ensure correct configuration of aircraft systems.
  • Complete specialized structural tasks such as flap peening, cold working, and similar processes as required by the maintenance program.
  • Fabricate repair parts using shop tooling such as brakes, stretchers, and other sheet metal fabrication equipment.
  • Use basic hand tools and airframe-specific tooling, including hi-lok pliers, to perform drilling, riveting, and structural assembly work.
  • Participate in orientation and safety training during the first week and then transition to regular work in the heavy check hangar.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and documentation requirements while working in hangars and shop areas.
  • Collaborate with other mechanics and technicians to complete heavy check packages and modification projects on schedule.
  • Maintain personal tools in good working order and ensure they are available for daily tasks.
  • Adapt to assigned shifts and support overtime needs to meet project timelines and operational requirements.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4 years of experience in airframe or structures repair, including installation and repair of aircraft structural components.
  • Proficiency in structural drilling, riveting, and working with blind fasteners and other aircraft fastener systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from OEM and engineering drawings, blueprints, and structural diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience with aircraft sheet metal work, including fabrication, fitting, and installation of structural parts.
  • Capability to perform repairs and modifications on flight control surfaces and related components.
  • Competence in using basic hand tools, including wrenches, socket sets, and bucking bars, for airframe tasks.
  • Proficiency in using hi-lok pliers and other specialized tools required for airframe installations.
  • Willingness to work on either first or second shift and remain open to shift assignment based on operational needs.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and complete orientation and safety training prior to working in the hangar environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Airbus water and waste interface systems is preferred.
  • Experience working in heavy check hangars or MRO environments is beneficial.
  • Comfort using specialized sheet metal shop tooling such as brakes and stretchers to fabricate repair parts.
  • Ability to use preferred tools such as die grinders, rivet guns, ball peen hammers, and blue dent hammers.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality when performing structural repairs and modifications.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills in a fast-paced maintenance environment.

Work Environment

Work takes place in large heavy check hangars and shop areas, all indoors, within an established MRO campus in Everett, WA. The first week is dedicated to orientation and safety training, typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (sometimes concluding by Thursday). After orientation, you will move to an assigned floor shift, which may be 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., scheduled Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. The environment regularly offers 10 to 20 hours of overtime, depending on project demands. You will use a range of aircraft maintenance tools, including basic hand tools, hi-lok pliers, blind fastener tools (provided), and various sheet metal fabrication equipment, while working in a structured, safety-focused hangar setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
