Job description

Position Purpose:

We are seeking a highly qualified Air Cargo Test Engineer with subject matter expertise in air cargo screening technologies who will lead developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) activities for prototype skid screening systems and automated threat recognition software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead DT&E of prototype air cargo screening systems utilizing computed tomography (CT) and neutron imaging technologies
  • Conduct comprehensive image quality assessments using N42.46 and F792 test methods
  • Perform penetration capability assessments for palletized air cargo screening systems
  • Execute Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL) readiness assessments
  • Develop Test and Evaluation Plans (TEPs) for initial benchmarking and final assessments
  • Prepare Quick Look Reports (QLRs) summarizing test results and system performance
  • Create comprehensive Technical and Evaluation Reports (TERs) for prototype systems
  • Develop vendor briefing packages and PowerPoint presentations for stakeholder communications
  • Manage image databases for air cargo scanner data archiving
  • Coordinate supply of image data to third-party Automated Threat Recognition (ATR) developers
  • Perform technical assessments of third-party ATR systems
  • Analyze detection performance and user interface operability of ATR software
  • Maintain comprehensive spreadsheets tracking archived data and metadata
  • Conduct testing at Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) factory locations
  • Prepare detailed trip reports for factory testing activities
  • Coordinate shipment of test fixtures and equipment
  • Execute testing protocols in accordance with established procedures
  • Download and backup scan files from OEM systems

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in image quality assessment methodologies (N42.46, F792 standards)
  • Knowledge of CT and neutron imaging principles
  • Experience with automated threat recognition software evaluation
  • Strong analytical and data management capabilities
  • Familiarity with TSA regulations and air cargo security requirements

Education/Experience:

A Bachelorโ€™s Degree in a science field from an accredited college or university with 15 years of experience; or a Masterโ€™s Degree in a science field from an accredited college or university with 9 of experience; or a Ph.D. in a science field from an accredited college or university with 3 years of experience.

Clearance:

An active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance or a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Fitness is preferred for this position.ย  The ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance and a DHS Fitness is required for this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of the technical activities performed by the more junior staff members assigned to the project is required for this position.

Working Conditions/Equipment:

The incumbent professional is expected to be present at the work site and/or be available during regular business hours. He/She should also generally be available via e-mail or phone during non-business hours as needed to address critical issues or emergencies.
