What is an AI Trainer Software Engineer?

An AI Trainer Software Engineer is a professional who develops, implements, and refines machine learning models by preparing and curating training data, creating algorithms, and optimizing model performance. They bridge the gap between data science and software engineering by ensuring that AI systems are both accurate and efficient in real-world applications. Their work often involves collaborating with data scientists, annotators, and other engineers to improve AI capabilities such as natural language processing, computer vision, or recommendation systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Trainer Software Engineer?

To thrive as an AI Trainer Software Engineer, you need a strong background in computer science, machine learning concepts, and programming languages like Python, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with AI frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), data annotation tools, and version control systems is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure accurate model training, effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the development of high-quality AI systems.

What are some typical challenges faced by AI Trainer Software Engineers when working with large datasets?

AI Trainer Software Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring data quality and consistency, managing data labeling accuracy, and handling imbalanced or incomplete datasets. Additionally, they must efficiently preprocess and augment data to optimize model training while collaborating closely with data scientists and annotators. Addressing these challenges requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to iterate on dataset curation based on model feedback.

What is the difference between Ai Trainer Software Engineer vs Data Scientist?

AspectAi Trainer Software EngineerData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's in CS, AI, or related; experience with ML frameworksBachelor's or higher in CS, Statistics, or related; strong analytical skills
Work EnvironmentTech companies, AI startups, R&D labsResearch institutions, tech firms, consulting
Employer & Industry UsageDeveloping AI models, training datasets, refining algorithmsAnalyzing data, building predictive models, insights generation

While both roles involve working with data and machine learning, Ai Trainer Software Engineers focus on training AI models and refining algorithms, whereas Data Scientists analyze data to generate insights and build predictive models. The roles often overlap but serve different primary functions within AI development and data analysis teams.

Job description

MapMatix is a small, high impact software company that builds custom tools and intelligent automations for growing businesses. We specialize in modern, scalable systems powered by Cloudflare and JavaScript, and we use Claude Code every day as a core part of how we design, build, and ship software.
We are looking for a software engineer who thrives in this kind of environment. This is a hands on role. You will work side by side with our CTO in a coworking space in Littleton Colorado, collaborating directly on real world client projects and shipping production ready solutions quickly. If you are already using AI tools to write and refine code and you are excited about where AI assisted development is heading, you will fit right in.
At Mapmatix, we move fast, build thoughtfully, and embrace the future of software development. If that sounds like your kind of team, we would love to talk.
Responsibilities:
  • Building full-stack applications on Cloudflare (Workers, D1, Pages, KV, etc.)
  • Writing JavaScript across the stack
  • Working with Claude Code, Claude Skills, and MCPs as part of your daily workflow
  • Designing and building user interfaces that actually look good
  • Working with databases and managing data
  • Collaborating directly with the CTO on client projects and internal tool
Qualifications:
  • Working Experience with Claude Code
  • Solid JavaScript skills
  • Experience building on Cloudflare (or strong willingness to learn quickly)
  • Familiarity with MCPs and Claude Skills
  • Database experience (SQL, data modeling)
  • An eye for UI/UX -- you care about what the end user sees
  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience
  • Experience and a Profile on GitHUB
Skills:
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment where tools and processes are constantly evolving.
  • Understand how software is built from the ground up
  • Comfortable working closely in person with other engineers to tackle complex problems.
  • Willing to challenge assumptions about AI's ability to create reliable software.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range of $70,000 to $90,000 annually
  • Medical insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off
