Job description

Job Summary

The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in artificial intelligence (AI) to advance comparative biomedical sciences and clinical veterinary medicine. The role will focus on developing AI technologies that improve animal and human health and collaborate across the UW-Madison campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent extramural research in AI applications to improve animal and human health (approx. 70% effort).
  • Teach veterinary, undergraduate, or graduate courses in related disciplines (approx. 20% effort).
  • Train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees in AI research and methodology.
  • Provide academic service to the Department, School of Veterinary Medicine, and the university; engage across campus disciplines.
  • Maintain a collaborative research environment and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
  • For candidates holding NIH K awards, commit 75% research effort during the award period.
Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree: PhD, DVM/VMD, MD, or equivalent in veterinary medicine, animal sciences, biomedical sciences, computational sciences, or a closely related field by the start date of this position.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent research excellence and future potential for independent funding.
  • Strong interest and expertise in AI, machine learning, and their applications to biomedical and veterinary problems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
