Ai Technical Program Manager information

What is an AI Technical Program Manager?

AI Technical Program Managers (AI TPMs) are professionals who oversee and coordinate the development and deployment of artificial intelligence projects within an organization. They bridge the gap between technical teams, such as data scientists and engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with company goals. AI TPMs are responsible for project planning, risk management, resource allocation, and facilitating communication across teams. Their role requires both a strong understanding of AI technologies and robust project management skills.

How does an AI Technical Program Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during project development?

As an AI Technical Program Manager, you'll work closely with data scientists, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure projects stay on track. You'll facilitate regular meetings to align priorities, clarify requirements, and address any technical or resource challenges that arise. Effective communication and coordination across teams are essential, as you'll often bridge the gap between technical and non-technical contributors to deliver successful AI solutions on time and within scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Technical Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Technical Program Manager, you need a solid background in computer science or engineering, experience managing technical projects, and a deep understanding of AI and machine learning concepts. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira or Asana), cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), and relevant certifications (like PMP or Agile) is highly valuable. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential for effectively guiding cross-functional teams and aligning project goals. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring successful delivery of complex AI initiatives and bridging the gap between technical teams and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage complex, cross-functional AI/ML, GenAI, and agentic AI programs from planning through delivery.
  • Develop and maintain program plans, milestones, schedules, dependencies, deliverables, and execution roadmaps.
  • Drive alignment across engineering, product, architecture, platform, security, data, and business stakeholders.
  • Identify, track, and proactively mitigate program risks, issues, dependencies, and blockers.

  • Establish program governance, status reporting, communication plans, and executive-level updates.
  • Work closely with product and engineering leadership to prioritize initiatives and manage competing requirements.
  • Support AI governance, AI lifecycle management, responsible AI, and enterprise AI adoption initiatives.
  • Ensure programs follow established SDLC, Agile, security, architecture, and technology governance processes.
  • Track technical deliverables involving APIs, cloud platforms, data platforms, AI/ML systems, and enterprise integrations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve program execution, processes, delivery methodologies, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Manage program documentation, decision logs, action items, and stakeholder communications using tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO), Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
Qualifications

  • Experience working across engineering, product, architecture, platform, security, and business teams.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, APIs, cloud technologies, and enterprise architecture.
  • Experience managing program dependencies, risks, issues, milestones, budgets, and delivery timelines.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar program/project management tools.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced enterprise environment and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing enterprise AI transformation or AI platform programs.
  • Experience with AI governance, AI lifecycle management, responsible AI, or AI risk management.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Understanding of LLMs, AI agents, RAG, machine learning platforms, MLOps, or AI application architecture.
  • Experience working with enterprise data, APIs, integrations, and platform engineering teams.
  • Experience working in highly regulated or security-conscious enterprise environments.
  • PMP, PgMP, SAFe, Scrum Master, or other relevant program/project management certification is a plus.
