Ai Task information

What is an AI task?

AI tasks are specific activities or problems that artificial intelligence systems are designed to perform or solve. These can range from natural language processing, image recognition, and data analysis to autonomous decision-making and recommendation systems. AI tasks are typically defined based on the goals of an AI project and can be performed by machine learning models, algorithms, or other intelligent software. Understanding the nature of a particular AI task is crucial for choosing the right tools and methods to solve it effectively.

What are some common challenges faced by AI task specialists when working on multi-disciplinary teams?

AI Task specialists often collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and domain experts. A common challenge is translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders while ensuring that the AI models align with business objectives. Balancing competing priorities, such as model accuracy versus deployment speed, and managing expectations around AI capabilities can also be demanding. Effective communication and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and achieving successful project outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI (Artificial Intelligence) engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, mathematics, and programming, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), programming languages (like Python), and familiarity with cloud platforms is essential, and certifications in data science or AI can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, creativity, and effective communication skills help AI Engineers design innovative solutions and explain complex concepts to diverse stakeholders. These skills ensure successful development, deployment, and integration of AI technologies in real-world applications.

What is the difference between Ai Task vs Data Annotator?

AspectAi TaskData Annotator
Required CredentialsBasic technical skills, sometimes certifications in AI or data labelingMinimal formal education, training in annotation tools often provided
Work EnvironmentRemote or on-site, often part of AI development teamsPrimarily remote, working with datasets and annotation platforms
Industry UsageAI development, machine learning projectsData preparation for AI, machine learning, and data science
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding roles in AI projects, job requirementsClarifying data labeling tasks and skills needed

Ai Tasks involve a range of activities related to training AI models, including data labeling, model testing, and algorithm development. Data Annotators specifically focus on labeling and annotating datasets to train machine learning models. While both roles support AI development, Ai Tasks encompass broader responsibilities, whereas Data Annotators primarily handle data preparation.

Job description

Job Description:

Architect - Agentic AI

Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World

Choosing where to start and grow your career has a major impact on your professional and personal life, so it's equally important you know that the company that you choose to work at, and its leaders, will support and guide you. With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

The Impact You'll Make in this Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agentic AI Architect to set the architecture, standards, and operating model for enterprise agent systems that plan, reason, and act via secure interfaces. You will lead a cross-functional team, define reference designs for multi-agent workflows, memory, orchestration, and human oversight, and mentor teams on modern engineering.

You will accelerate automation and decision support by delivering scalable, reliable, and compliant agent services integrated with core platforms. Set evaluation and safety standards, partner with risk, security and compliance to ensure security, reliability & performance of Agentic solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the reference architecture and roadmap for agentic AI, defining standards for multi-agent patterns, tool/function interfaces, RAG/memory design, orchestration, security, and environment segregation.

  • Translate business objectives into a prioritized portfolio of agentic use cases; mentor engineers and data scientists; and communicate architecture decisions, risks, and value realization to executive stakeholders.

  • Lead the design and delivery of production grade agentic solutions that safely execute actions in enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, Salesforce, Snowflake etc), with CI/CD, automated testing, rollback, and human-in-the-loop controls.

  • Establish and enforce governance, safety, and compliance controls-including prompt injection/ jailbreak defenses, policy guardrails, data classification/residency, and PHI/PII handling-in partnership with Security, Legal, and Risk.

Implement evaluation, observability and operations at scale: task-based evals, telemetry and tracing, incident response, and FinOps practices to achieve defined SLAs for reliability, latency, and cost.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Master's in computer science, applied mathematics, or engineering field or a science field (completed and verified prior to star)
  • Five (5) years of experience in AI engineering, with at least Two (2) years in a Generative AI, AI driven automation or RPA in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Advanced proficiency in Python and modern software engineering practices + agent frameworks such as LangGraph, AWS Strands or MS AutoGen.
  • Experience with RAG/memory architecture (chunking, embeddings, vector DBs, enterprise search/knowledge graphs) and secure integration with SAP/Salesforce/Snowflake.
  • Strong command of cloud architecture and governance on AWS or Azure encompassing network isolation, identity and secrets management, and data-protection controls; practical experience implementing AI safety and compliance (prompt-injection and jailbreak mitigation, PHI/PII handling, GDPR/SOC 2).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud agent platforms (e.g., AWS Bedrock AgentCore, Azure AI Agent Service/AI foundry) and routing across multiple model providers.
  • Familiarity with agent evaluation and risk controls, including offline/online task-based evaluations (e.g., Ragas, DeepEval), guardrail/policy engines, prompt-injection/jailbreak mitigation, and PHI/PII protection.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise-scale integration and operations (Mulesoft, SAP BTP) workflow orchestration (Power Platform, Airflow), event streaming (Kafka/Kinesis), and FinOps techniques (caching, batching, rate limiting).
