What is an AI RN?

AI RNs, or Artificial Intelligence Registered Nurses, are licensed nursing professionals who leverage artificial intelligence tools and technologies to enhance patient care, streamline administrative tasks, and support clinical decision-making. These nurses work alongside AI-powered systems that can assist with patient monitoring, diagnosis, treatment planning, and documentation, allowing them to focus more on direct patient interactions and complex care needs. While AI RNs still perform traditional nursing duties, their expertise in using advanced technologies is increasingly important as healthcare systems adopt digital solutions to improve efficiency and outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI RN?

To thrive as an AI Researcher, you need a strong background in mathematics, computer science, and machine learning, often supported by an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a related field. Expertise in programming languages like Python, proficiency with frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and experience with data analysis tools are typically required. Critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication help AI Researchers stand out when developing novel solutions and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These skills are important for successfully advancing AI technologies, publishing impactful research, and driving innovation in the field.

What are the most common challenges AI RNs face when integrating new healthcare technologies into their daily workflow?

AI RNs often encounter challenges such as adapting to new electronic health record systems, ensuring data accuracy when using AI-driven diagnostic tools, and maintaining patient privacy while leveraging digital platforms. Successful integration requires ongoing training, clear communication with IT teams, and balancing technology use with hands-on patient care. Collaboration with colleagues and openness to continuous learning are key to overcoming these hurdles and ensuring seamless patient-centered care.

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

This isn’t a typical nursing job. At Forward Focus, our physicians carry limited practice size— which means you’ll actually know your patients. You’ll see the same faces, follow care over time, and build the kind of relationships that make this work meaningful.

This nurse will operate as a floater between our North Suburb offices.

We’re looking for a nurse who brings both clinical skill and genuine warmth. Someone who is equally comfortable triaging a call, collaborating with a physician, and taking the extra moment to make a patient feel at ease. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Patient care & relationships

  • Build meaningful, long-term connections with patients through direct, consistent contact

  • Conduct phone triage and respond to clinical inquiries with sound judgment and care

  • Educate patients on medication management, health precautions, and care plans

  • Uphold HIPAA guidelines to always ensure patient confidentiality

Clinical responsibilities

  • Manage test results, medication refills, and prior authorizations

  • Perform lab draws, specimen collection, immunizations, and EKGs

  • Collaborate closely with physicians and staff to deliver coordinated, top-quality care

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Current, active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois

  • Minimum two years of hospital or clinical nursing experience

  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to prioritize patient needs confidently

  • Excellent communication skills — with patients, physicians, and teammates

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems

Who you are

  • A natural relationship-builder — you remember patients names and patients feel better after talking to you

  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a close-knit team

  • Detail-oriented and organized, especially when managing multiple patient needs

  • Genuinely passionate about concierge-style, personalized care

Phone triage   Lab draws & EKGs   Medication management   Prior authorizations   EMR proficiency   Patient education

BENEFITS

  • 401(k) with matching

  • Health savings account (HSA)

  • Life insurance

  • Retirement plan

  • Consistent Monday–Friday schedule — no nights, no weekends

ABOUT FORWARD FOCUS

Founded in 2007 by Dr. Gary Schaffel, Forward Focus was one of Chicago’s first concierge medical practices. We now serve the North Shore with three boutique locations and a team of ten exceptional physicians — all united by the belief that great healthcare starts with genuinely knowing your patient.

Ready to apply?

If you’re a nurse who wants your work to feel meaningful — where you know your patients and your team has your back — we’d love to hear from you.

Forward Focus is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive team where everyone can thrive.
