Job description

American Express National Bank (AENB) is American Express' U.S. banking operation serving consumer and small business customers with payments, financing, and deposit products that account for more than 65% of the company's revenues. AENB HQ supports the administration of AENB programs, helping ensure its safety and soundness while driving greater effectiveness, efficiency and consistency across the enterprise through governance, strategic planning, control management, program management, and regulatory functions.
The Manager, Affiliate Management Quality Assurance (QA), will support the Enterprise and AENB affiliate management programs through the execution and ongoing enhancement of a centralized QA program. The role will perform risk-based QA activities across the third-party risk management lifecycle to assess the effectiveness, consistency, and quality of the affiliate management program execution and adherence to established requirements. This role will partner closely with the affiliate management teams and internal stakeholders and affiliate partners to provide objective assessment of affiliate management activities and documentation to help ensure program execution is aligned with applicable policies, procedures, governance standards, and regulatory expectations, including Regulation W and the Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships: Risk Management.
This position requires strong management, collaboration, analytical and communication skills, as the role regularly interfaces with cross-functional business partners, governance teams, and senior leadership. The successful candidate will have experience supporting quality assurance, testing, operational risk, third-party management, and/or governance programs within a highly regulated environment. An understanding of American Express products, processes, organization, and governance processes is required.
Responsibilities
  • Execute and support the ongoing enhancement of the centralized affiliate management QA program across both Enterprise and AENB affiliate management programs.
  • Perform risk-based QA testing across the third-party risk management lifecycle to assess the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of affiliate management program execution.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute QA procedures, testing methodologies, and test scripts aligned with affiliate management policies, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Develop and maintain QA procedures, testing methodologies, and test scripts aligned with applicable policies, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Identify, document, and communicate QA findings and partner with appropriate owners to support timely remediation and closure.
  • Analyze QA results to identify trends, root causes, findings, remediation status, and opportunities for process, procedure, training, or control improvements.
  • Develop and communicate QA reporting to affiliate management leadership and relevant governance forums, leveraging AI-enabled tools, agents, or automation where appropriate to support analysis, documentation, reporting, and process improvement activities.
  • Partner with affiliate management teams and key stakeholders to promote consistent program execution, effective governance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure QA activities are aligned with applicable regulatory and policy requirements, including Regulation W and the Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships: Risk Management.

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • 3-5+ years of banking, operational risk, quality assurance/testing, third-party risk management, control management, and/or governance experience
  • Experience executing risk-based testing activities, including reviewing procedures and translating requirements into testing criteria or test scripts.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate data, identify gaps and trends, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate findings, risks and recommendations.
  • High attention to detail, superior organizational skills, and ability to follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to thoughtfully leverage AI-enabled tools, agents, or automation where appropriate to improve efficiency, analysis, documentation, and reporting, while applying sound judgment, governance expectations, and appropriate oversight.
  • Understanding of U.S. banking systems and processes, technical skills/computer knowledge (including excellent Microsoft suite skills)
  • Understanding of legal contracts and related governance activities

Preferred:
  • Undergraduate degree preferred, graduate degree a plus
