What challenges does an AI math analyst face in their daily work?

AI Math Analysts frequently work with large, complex datasets that may require extensive cleaning and preprocessing, which can be both time-consuming and technically challenging. They must balance the need for mathematical accuracy with the practical constraints of computational resources and project deadlines. Collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders is common, so the ability to translate complex mathematical concepts into actionable strategies is essential. Overcoming these challenges can be highly rewarding, as it directly contributes to the development and optimization of innovative AI systems.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an AI math analyst?

To thrive as an AI Math Analyst, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, machine learning, and programming (commonly Python or R), often supported by a relevant degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, MATLAB, and data visualization platforms, along with certifications in data science or AI, is highly beneficial. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and collaboration are essential soft skills that help you interpret complex data and share actionable insights. These abilities are crucial for successfully analyzing large datasets, building AI models, and contributing valuable mathematical insights to cross-functional teams.

What is an AI math analyst?

An AI Math Analyst applies mathematical concepts, statistics, and algorithms to develop and optimize AI models. They analyze data, design predictive models, and ensure mathematical accuracy in machine learning applications. Their work often involves linear algebra, calculus, probability, and optimization techniques to enhance AI performance.

Job description

Who We Are
Hyperbolic Labs is on a mission to democratize AI by breaking down the barriers to computing power with our Open-Access AI Cloud. By aggregating computing resources across the globe, we offer an innovative GPU marketplace and AI inference service that promise affordability and accessibility for all. As pioneers at the intersection of AI and open-source technology, we believe in an open future where AI innovation is limited only by imagination, not by access to resources. We're looking for forward-thinking individuals who share our passion for making AI universally accessible, secure, and affordable. Join us in building a platform that empowers innovators everywhere to turn their visionary AI projects into reality.
As we prepare for growth after our Series A, our team - led by co-founders with PhDs in AI, Math, and Computer Science - is poised to redefine computing.
About the Role
We're seeking a Head of Finance to build and scale the financial foundation of Hyperbolic as we grow our GPU marketplace and AI infrastructure platform. As an aggregator of compute supply and demand across a global network, our unit economics, pricing, and financial discipline are critical to the success of the business. You'll partner closely with the CEO to ensure operational excellence across finance while shaping how we think about margins, pricing, and long-term sustainability.
In this role, you'll establish and own core financial operations including accounting, AR/AP, and reporting, while building robust financial planning and forecasting systems that provide clarity into company performance. You'll define and refine GPU unit economics, develop models around reservation, utilization, and cost structure, and guide pricing strategy to ensure strong margins across every deal. You'll also manage financial relationships with suppliers, oversee billing and reconciliation across a complex network of customers and vendors, and improve cash flow predictability.
This is a high-impact position where your work directly influences our ability to operate efficiently, scale responsibly, and deliver sustainable, margin-positive growth. You'll play a key role in shaping financial strategy, enabling better decision-making across the company, and ensuring we have the financial rigor needed to support rapid growth and future fundraising.
Who You Are
  • Experienced finance leader with 10+ years in finance, accounting, or related roles, including 2-3+ years in a leadership capacity
  • Strong foundation in financial operations including accounting, AR/AP, monthly close, and financial reporting
  • Deep expertise in financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and building scalable financial models
  • Proven ability to develop and manage company-wide P&L visibility, cash flow management, and financial controls
  • Experience defining and analyzing unit economics, with the ability to translate complex cost structures into actionable insight
  • Strong business partner who can work cross-functionally with leadership, product, and GTM teams to influence strategy and decision-making
  • Experience managing billing, invoicing, and reconciliation processes across multiple stakeholders including customers and suppliers
  • Track record of improving cash collection cycles and optimizing working capital in high-growth environments
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail, while maintaining the ability to think strategically
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building systems and processes from the ground up

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in cloud infrastructure, developer tools, or technical industries with usage-based or consumption pricing models
  • Background working in supply/demand or capacity-constrained environments (e.g., marketplaces, infrastructure, or logistics)
  • Familiarity with GPU or compute infrastructure economics, including pricing, utilization, and cost optimization
  • Experience supporting or leading venture capital fundraising, including financial modeling and investor materials
  • Background at high-growth startups or early-stage companies building finance functions from scratch
  • Experience working with complex supplier ecosystems and managing financial operations across distributed networks

Hyperbolic is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
