Job Summary
The Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) will operate at the intersection of business transformation, artificial intelligence, and enterprise technology, working directly with business stakeholders to understand functional challenges and rapidly build AI-powered prototypes. This is a hands-on build role rather than a traditional consulting position, requiring the ability to translate business problems into technical solutions, develop proofs of concept within 90 days or less, and transition validated solutions to engineering teams for enterprise-scale development. The role requires strong functional domain expertise, executive-level communication, hands-on coding ability, and a startup mindset. The position is remote, with occasional travel for business meetings as needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Partner directly with business leaders, operational stakeholders, and executives to identify business challenges and opportunities for AI-driven transformation.
• Translate complex functional and business problems into actionable technical requirements and AI solution concepts.
• Act as a single point of contact between business stakeholders and development, minimizing unnecessary layers between the business and engineering resources.
• Architect, build, and validate AI-first prototypes, proofs of concept, and applications through highly iterative development cycles.
• Deliver proofs of concept within 90 days or less, with some initiatives potentially completing within significantly shorter development cycles.
• Develop solutions such as LLM-powered applications, AI agents, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions.
• Design and integrate APIs, enterprise systems, data sources, and third-party platforms.
• Work on approximately 1-2 initiatives at a time depending on the size and complexity of the effort.
• Collaborate with engineering and platform AI teams to transition validated prototypes for enterprise-scale development.
• Engage additional technical resources when necessary while maintaining direct ownership of solution development and business engagement.
• Communicate solution concepts, progress, risks, and outcomes effectively with both executive and technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
• 12+ years of combined business, industry, and technology experience.
• Strong functional business domain expertise in at least one of the following areas: Legal, Nutrition, Manufacturing, or Service Management.
• Experience working directly within business operations rather than solely serving as a technology provider.
• Demonstrated experience defining transformation initiatives and driving measurable business outcomes.
• Executive-facing experience with senior business stakeholders and functional leaders.
• Strong executive-level presence, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Hands-on software development experience with the ability to independently code and build AI prototypes.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on experience working with AI models such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Google Gemini.
• Experience designing RAG architectures and AI agents using frameworks such as LangChain, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
• Proficiency with a major cloud platform, with Azure preferred.
• Knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT pipeline design.
• Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as SAP or Salesforce.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with ambiguity and incomplete information.
Preferred Qualifications
• Startup experience or a startup mindset, with the ability to operate effectively in resource-constrained and fast-moving environments.
• Experience rapidly developing and validating AI proofs of concept with business users.
• Experience transitioning successful prototypes into enterprise engineering and platform teams.
• Experience with Azure services and cloud-native AI development.
