Ai Engineer Architect information

What is an AI engineer architect?

AI Engineer Architects are professionals who design, develop, and oversee the implementation of artificial intelligence solutions within organizations. They combine expertise in AI technologies, such as machine learning and deep learning, with architectural skills to create scalable, robust, and efficient AI systems. Their responsibilities often include selecting appropriate AI frameworks, ensuring data pipelines are optimized, and collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to align AI initiatives with organizational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI engineer architect?

To thrive as an AI Engineer Architect, you need deep expertise in computer science, machine learning, algorithm development, and system architecture, often supported by advanced degrees and experience in AI project delivery. Familiarity with AI frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or GCP), and relevant certifications (e.g., Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer) is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills help you bridge technical and business requirements and guide teams effectively. These skills are crucial for designing scalable, innovative AI solutions that align with organizational goals and drive successful implementation.

How does an AI engineer architect typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during project development?

AI Engineer Architects regularly work alongside data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to design and implement AI-driven solutions. They are responsible for translating complex business requirements into scalable AI architectures, guiding project direction, and ensuring technical feasibility. Collaboration often involves leading technical discussions, conducting code and architecture reviews, and providing mentorship to junior AI engineers. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as AI Engineer Architects must align AI initiatives with broader organizational goals.

What is the difference between Ai Engineer Architect vs Data Scientist?

AspectAi Engineer ArchitectData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's/Master's in CS, AI, or related fields; certifications in AI/MLBachelor's/Master's in CS, Statistics, or related fields; certifications in data analysis or ML
Work EnvironmentDesigning AI architectures, developing models, integrating AI solutionsAnalyzing data, building predictive models, deriving insights
Employer & Industry UsageTech companies, AI-focused firms, R&D departmentsFinance, healthcare, marketing, tech firms

While both roles require expertise in AI and machine learning, Ai Engineer Architects focus on designing and implementing AI systems and architectures, whereas Data Scientists analyze data to generate insights and build models. The roles often overlap but differ mainly in scope and responsibilities.

Job description

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

We are seeking an innovative AI/ML Engineer / Architect to drive artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives across the Storage Products Group (SPG). In this role, you will explore emerging AI technologies, architect scalable solutions, and accelerate the adoption of AI-driven capabilities that improve engineering productivity, product development, validation, firmware workflows, and business operations.

You will work at the intersection of AI research, software engineering, and systems architecture, evaluating cutting-edge technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI frameworks, Generative AI, and intelligent automation platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong collaboration skills and a passion for transforming innovative concepts into production-ready solutions that deliver measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, evaluate, and prototype emerging AI/ML technologies and architectures to address engineering and operational challenges across SPG.

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable AI/ML solutions that improve productivity, quality, automation, and decision-making.

  • Lead proof-of-concept and rapid prototyping efforts to validate new AI capabilities and demonstrate business value.

  • Architect and integrate AI-powered applications into production environments while ensuring scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Develop and implement best practices for AI development, deployment, monitoring, governance, and lifecycle management.

  • Drive adoption of Generative AI, Agentic AI, coding assistants, and intelligent automation tools across engineering organizations.

  • Define and promote responsible AI standards, including model evaluation, compliance, security, transparency, and risk management.

  • Partner with firmware, validation, product engineering, business operations, and software development teams to identify and prioritize high-impact AI opportunities.

  • Provide technical leadership in selecting AI platforms, frameworks, and development tools.

  • Present technical findings, architectural recommendations, and implementation strategies to stakeholders, engineering teams, and senior leadership.

  • Mentor engineers and champion AI/ML best practices throughout the organization.

  • Stay current on advancements in machine learning, large language models, agent frameworks, and AI-enabled software development methodologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 2 - 5+ years of experience in software engineering, systems design, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related technical disciplines.

  • Experience developing and deploying software solutions using Python or similar programming languages.

  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies, including machine learning frameworks, Generative AI, or Large Language Models.

  • Understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and scalable application design principles.

  • Experience evaluating and integrating third-party technologies, frameworks, and platforms.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple engineering disciplines and business functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, systems architecture, research engineering, or advanced software development.

  • Deep expertise with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), Agentic AI systems, and Generative AI applications.

  • Experience using and extending modern AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, AI agents, and autonomous development frameworks.

  • Experience building enterprise AI platforms, AI copilots, or intelligent automation solutions.

  • Knowledge of MLOps, LLMOps, model deployment pipelines, monitoring, and governance frameworks.

  • Experience establishing responsible AI, AI governance, security, or compliance standards.

  • Familiarity with semiconductor, storage, SSD, firmware, validation, or systems engineering environments.

  • Experience applying AI to engineering productivity, software development, test automation, validation, or product lifecycle workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and drive organizational adoption of emerging technologies.
