They work with machine learning, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing to build intelligent systems that interact dynamically with users and other agents. These engineers often integrate AI models with APIs, databases, and software applications to create functional and scalable AI-driven solutions. Their role bridges software engineering and artificial intelligence, ensuring agents operate efficiently and adaptively in various use cases.

What are some typical challenges faced by AI Agent engineers in their day-to-day work?

AI Agent Engineers often encounter challenges such as optimizing agent performance for real-time environments, integrating new algorithms without disrupting existing systems, and ensuring their models can handle diverse and dynamic real-world data. Troubleshooting unexpected behaviors or edge cases and keeping up with rapidly evolving research in artificial intelligence can also be demanding. Working closely with product managers, data scientists, and software developers helps address these challenges, making collaboration and adaptability key components of daily tasks. Overcoming these issues offers valuable learning opportunities and contributes to the growth of robust, innovative AI solutions.

Job Title

Senior AI Solutions Engineer

About the role

As a Senior AI Solutions Engineer, you will be the technical expert other engineers, product owners, and business leaders come to when they want to ship an AI agent. You will design and build production agents against both the Microsoft 365 Copilot/Copilot Studio ecosystem and the Anthropic Claude platform and set the patterns and guardrails that the rest of the organization adopts.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain production AI agents that automate enterprise workflows and augment employee productivity by owning the full lifecycle - requirements, architecture, prompt and tool design, evaluation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration
  • Serve as the hands-on expert for Anthropic's Claude platform, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and the broader Microsoft agent ecosystem
  • Build custom agents, connectors, and extensions that integrate with Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, and line-of-business systems
  • Design multi-step agent architectures: tool use, retrieval (RAG), memory, orchestration across multiple models and systems, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and graceful failure modes
  • Build and maintain the evaluation harnesses that tell us whether an agent is actually working - offline evaluations, regression tests, production telemetry, cost and latency tracking, and quality metrics tied to business outcomes rather than vibes
  • Partner with security, compliance, legal, and model risk management to make sure every agent we ship meets company standards for data handling, auditability, access control, and responsible AI use
  • Set the technical patterns that let other engineers across Fiserv build on what you've built instead of starting from zero
  • Evaluate new models, frameworks, and platform releases as they land and make clear, opinionated recommendations about what we should adopt, what we should ignore, and why

What you'll need to have

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Python, Typescript/Javascript
  • 2+ years of experience specifically building LLM-powered applications or agents in production with M365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, or equivalent enterprise agent platforms
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with frontier LLM APIs (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google, or Azure OpenAI)
  • Demonstrated experience with Claude Code or equivalent agentic coding tools as part of your own development workflow, and the judgment to know when to use them vs. when to write code directly
  • Prior experience with at least one agent framework (LangChain/LangGraph, Anthropic's agent SDK, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, CrewAI)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, work, and/or military experience

What we'd love you to have

  • Prior experience in financial services, payments, or another regulated industry, and familiarity with how AI governance, model risk management, and audit actually work in those environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and in meetings with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Graph APIs, Azure AI services, and how to build, deploy, and govern agents inside a Microsoft-centric enterprise
  • Working knowledge of RAG architectures, vector databases, embedding models, and the evaluation methodology
  • Experience building and publishing MCP servers, or building agents that consume them
  • Background in information security, particularly email security, identity, or threat detection
  • Experience with agent evaluation frameworks (Anthropic's evals, Braintrust, Langfuse, Arize, or similar) and with production LLM observability

How you'll work:

  • Fiserv emphasizes in-person collaboration to help you grow your career while shaping the future of fintech, this role is on-site Monday through Friday
  • This role requires flexibility to work overtime that may include weekends
  • This role requires use of a computer and audio equipment

Travel:

  • Approximately 5% travel off-site or to other office locations is expected

Sponsorship:

  • In order to be considered, you must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
