A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is looking for a motivated Strategic Account Management (SAM) Intern to support the Strategic Partnerships and National Accounts team. This internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to strategic account management by helping analyze account behavior, track customer engagement activity, support CRM reporting, and observe how Strategic Account Managers build and manage long-term customer relationships. The intern will assist with account analytics, Salesforce CRM updates, customer meeting preparation, account activity tracking, and opportunity analysis. This role will also support account planning efforts by documenting customer touchpoints, identifying account trends, preparing follow-up actions, and helping the team better understand how time spent in front of customer accounts contributes to account growth, loyalty, and stronger business outcomes.

This internship is ideal for someone who is curious about sales, analytics, agriculture business, customer relationship management, and strategic account development. The role provides the opportunity to gain practical experience supporting National Accounts and Strategic Account Management processes from planning through execution.

Essential Functions:

Account Analytics & Behavior Insights: Assist in reviewing account activity, purchase patterns, engagement history, CRM notes, opportunity movement, and other account-level information to identify customer behavior trends and areas of opportunity.

Customer Engagement & Time-in-Front-of-Account Tracking: Support tracking of customer-facing activities, including customer meetings, dealer/account discussions, business reviews, calls, events, and follow-up actions to help evaluate account engagement and relationship development.

Salesforce CRM Management: Help maintain accurate account, contact, opportunity, and activity data in Salesforce. Support reporting needs, data cleanup, account updates, and consistent CRM utilization across Strategic Account Management activities.

Account Activity & Follow-Up Documentation: Assist SAMs and the Strategic Partnerships team by documenting account meeting notes, action items, next steps, customer observations, and assigned follow-up activities in a timely and organized manner.

Customer Meeting Preparation: Assist with preparation for customer-facing meetings, account reviews, internal planning sessions, and business review discussions by compiling account data, CRM reports, presentation inputs, and account-specific insights.

Reporting & Dashboard Support: Assist with the development and maintenance of account tracking reports, CRM summaries, Excel-based analysis, and Power BI or other reporting inputs used to monitor account performance and engagement activity.

Learning SAM Best Practices: Participate in a structured learning experience focused on strategic account management fundamentals, including customer relationship development, account planning, account segmentation, value creation, internal alignment, and professional sales discipline.

Reports directly to the VP of Strategic Partnership and works closely with Strategic Account Managers, the Strategic Partnerships team, sales, marketing, finance, product, customer service, and dealer-facing team members.

Other tasks as assigned by the Strategic Partnerships team.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Data Analytics, Economics, or related field

Interest in strategic account management, sales, customer relationship management, agriculture business, or business analytics

Strong analytical skills with the ability to review data, identify trends, and summarize insights clearly

Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize, analyze, and summarize account or CRM-related data

Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Interest in learning Salesforce CRM, Power BI, reporting tools, and account management systems

Strong written and oral communication skills

Ability to document meeting notes, account observations, action items, and follow-up activities accurately

Comfortable interacting professionally with internal teams, customers, dealers, and account stakeholders when appropriate

Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

Highly motivated individual with a desire to learn, ask questions, and take on challenging opportunities

Strong time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines

Articulate, strong interpersonal skills, team oriented and personable

High interest in understanding customer behavior, sales processes, account engagement, and business development

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with customer, account, and business information

Willingness to take on additional tasks outside of the job description as needed to support the Strategic Partnerships team

A minimum 3.0 GPA

Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week

Availability to participate in selected customer meetings, account reviews, or account-facing activities as directed
