Position Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care services to youth within a secure juvenile correctional setting while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and established nursing practices. The RN will be responsible for medication administration, nursing assessments, treatment planning, infection control, and participation in multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, sound nursing judgment, and the ability to deliver quality patient-centered care in a secure residential environment.
Key Responsibilities • Provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with established nursing standards and regulatory requirements. • Assess, monitor, and evaluate the overall health status of youth residing within the facility. • Prepare, review, implement, and evaluate nursing intervention and treatment plans. • Ensure nursing interventions are consistent with comprehensive treatment plans and healthcare objectives. • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing protocols. • Maintain and monitor general medical inventory, including controlled substances, in compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. • Document patient assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely. • Participate as an active member of the facility's multidisciplinary medical treatment team. • Prepare required clinical, medical, and administrative reports. • Maintain infection prevention and infection control standards throughout the facility. • Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and required training programs. • Support continuity of care through effective communication with healthcare providers and facility staff.
• Perform additional nursing duties and responsibilities as assigned to support facility healthcare operations.
Work Schedule & Conditions • Shift Hours: 1:00 PM - 11:00 PM • Includes a 30-minute unpaid meal break • Alternating weekends required • Every Monday off • Every other Tuesday and Thursday off • Overtime: Not required • Travel: Not required • Holidays: Required to work New York State holidays as scheduled
Facility Information • Industry Secure Center is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). • The facility serves youth within a secure juvenile correctional environment. • Current population is approximately 44 youth. • Free on-site parking available. • Dress code: Business casual attire or scrubs. • Supervision staff will be present while nursing care is provided to youth. • Currently, there are no vaccination requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York • Experience in correctional healthcare, juvenile services, behavioral health, residential treatment, pediatrics, or related healthcare settings preferred • Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and patient care skills • Knowledge of nursing care planning, infection control practices, and healthcare documentation standards • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills • Commitment to patient safety, quality care, confidentiality, and professional nursing standards
Background Check Requirements • Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and Federal Criminal History Record Checks • Fingerprinting required as part of the background investigation process • Screening through the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) • Screening through the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL)
• Successful completion of all background investigation and facility security clearance requirements is mandatory prior to assignment
Vaccination & Medical Requirements • Currently, there are no vaccination requirements
Required Training • Facility-specific orientation and training as required prior to assignment
