Job description

Job Summary

The Pathology Lab Clerk performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties in support of daily pathology laboratory operations. This role ensures compliance with CAP (College of American Pathologists) and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations, which are essential for maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of patient test results.


Key Responsibilities
  • Specimen Handling
    Receive, label, and process patient specimens following laboratory procedures and safety protocols. Verify patient and specimen identification using at least two unique identifiers in accordance with CLIA regulations.

  • Documentation amp; Data Entry
    Maintain accurate and timely records of specimens, test results, and quality control activities in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or other data systems.

  • Communication
    Answer incoming phone calls and respond to inquiries from physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding lab tests, specimen requirements, and results.

  • Slide amp; Block Management
    File, inventory, and retrieve patient slides and tissue blocks. Prepare and organize materials for pathologists as needed.

  • Inventory Management
    Monitor and manage laboratory supply inventory. Order and stock necessary materials to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.


Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting is often preferred.

  • Familiarity with CLIA regulatory requirements is a plus.

  • Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation

Pay Range: Starting pay $19.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
