Job description

MG Burn Table Operator – CNC Plasma & Oxy-Fuel | $20–$23/hr | 4-Day Work Week

PVS Structures (Owen Industries) – Carter Lake, IA (Near Downtown Omaha) | Mon–Thu, 5:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Cut Steel With Precision. Own the Machine. Go Home by Early Afternoon.

At PVS Structures, our burn table operators are the first step in turning raw steel plate into precision-cut components for complex structural steel fabrication projects. We're hiring an MG Burn Table Operator for 1st shift — someone who knows CNC plasma and oxy-fuel cutting, takes ownership of their machine, and holds themselves to a high standard on every job.

This is a 4-day work week with every Friday off and a consistent schedule that has you home by early afternoon every day.

The Details

  • Starting pay: $20.00–$23.00/hr depending on experience
  • Hours: Mon–Thu, 5:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Schedule: 4-day work week — Fridays always off
  • Home by early afternoon every day

What You'll Do

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set up and operate the MG CNC burn table using plasma and oxy-fuel cutting processes
  • Review work orders, cut lists, drawings, nesting layouts, and CNC programs before beginning each job
  • Verify material type, thickness, dimensions, and heat/plate identification before cutting
  • Load, position, and secure plate material on the burn table using appropriate material-handling equipment
  • Select appropriate torch, consumables, gases, amperage, speeds, pierce settings, and other parameters for each job
  • Verify the correct CNC program and cutting pattern are loaded and confirmed before starting
  • Monitor the machine during operation and make real-time adjustments to maintain cut quality and production efficiency
  • Operate both plasma and oxy-fuel cutting equipment as trained and qualified

Quality Inspection & Documentation

  • Inspect cut parts for dimensional accuracy, edge quality, slag, dross, bevel, and warping
  • Use precision measuring tools including tape measures, squares, and calipers
  • Identify, mark, and properly segregate nonconforming material and communicate quality issues to supervision
  • Maintain accurate production records including material used, parts produced, scrap, and downtime

Maintenance & Safety

  • Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on the burn table and associated equipment
  • Inspect torches, hoses, regulators, leads, and consumables for wear; replace consumables and perform authorized operator-level maintenance
  • Maintain proper gas pressures and follow established procedures for oxygen, fuel gas, and plasma systems
  • Monitor consumable usage and notify supervision when supplies need replenishment
  • Follow all PPE requirements, hot-work procedures, fire prevention, and LOTO procedures without exception
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the burn table at all times
  • Communicate machine problems, quality concerns, and production delays to supervision promptly

Team Leadership

  • Provide training and direction to MG Helpers and other employees as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience operating CNC burn tables using plasma and/or oxy-fuel cutting processes
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, cut lists, nesting layouts, and CNC programs
  • Working knowledge of cutting parameters — amperage, speeds, pierce settings, gas pressures — and how to adjust them to maintain cut quality
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools — tape measures, squares, calipers
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures for oxygen, fuel gas, and plasma systems
  • Familiarity with hot-work procedures, LOTO, and fire prevention practices
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment as required
  • Strong attention to detail in production documentation and record keeping
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality — your crew and production schedule count on you
  • Ability to train and direct helpers and entry-level employees effectively
