Job Description
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Data Analyst - Finance who will be responsible for analyzing enterprise data, developing new visual analytics tools, and identifying patterns, trends, and insights from available information systems to assist management with operational decision making, policy formulation, and other managerial functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Understand the assigned business challenge and develop a plan to identify, obtain, and analyze the necessary data to drive improved business performance
  • Analyze internal enterprise data, coupling statistical methods and data science to translate Mortenson's core data into actionable business insights and predictive models from a variety of data sources
  • Ability to analyze business issues using a variety of tools and approaches, and effectively explain findings to diverse audiences
  • Develop, analyze, and model operational, economic, management, and other organizational data
  • Quantify the competitive performance of business segments
  • Evaluate potential operational changes
  • Design new approaches and methodologies
  • Review program data consistently to provide corrective action when necessary based on information collected and current trends to maximize business performance
  • Take complex statistical output and translate it to actionable insights for business leaders
  • Driven by professional values that exemplify Mortenson's values of teamwork, responsibility, safety, service and stewardship
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of related experience
  • Knowledge and experience with standard programming language such as SQL Server, Python, or R
  • Experience with analytics and visualization tools, including those noted earlier plus Microsoft PowerPoint, SharePoint and Power BI
  • Strong ability to concisely present and explain complex information and findings
  • Highly analytical, displaying an innate curiosity to understand and communicate the context for what we do and why we do it
  • Shown ability to comprehend business and industry concepts
  • Strong, self-motivated work ethic, willing to roll their sleeves up to show and tell, as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience and shown ability using statistical analysis software/tools such as SAS, Python, or R, and an advanced competency in Microsoft Excel

The base pay range for this role is $72,900 - $109,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
