Job description

Job Title: Data Engineer Location: Hanover, MD Type: Contract Compensation: 55-70/hr W-2, depending on experience Work Model: Onsite US Citizenship required by federal client

Responsibilities

  • Assign a dedicated Data Engineer to serve as the primary technical resource for data integration, migration, implementation, and post-deployment support activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Design and configure the Azure Synapse environment, including implementing private endpoint connectivity and developing linked services.
  • Migrate existing pipelines, convert Talend ETL jobs, and validate source-to-target data accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, production deployment, and operational stabilization.
  • Provide technical guidance, documentation, knowledge transfer, and ongoing collaboration with cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, database administrators, application owners, and business stakeholders.
  • Build data analytics solutions using Azure Synapse serverless SQL pools and perform data engineering with Azure Synapse Apache Spark Pools.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data systems and pipelines for high availability and performance.
  • Work with Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Marts using Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Transfer and transform data with Azure Synapse Analytics pipelines and optimize data storage solutions.
  • Design and implement data storage solutions using Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL Database.
  • Develop and maintain schematics, architectures, and databases for advanced analytics.
Requirements
  • Experience with Agile Development methodologies.
  • Data Warehouse experience.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices.
  • Proficiency with Azure Data Factory and Synapse Analytics for data conversions, imports, and exports.
  • Experience automating tasks with scripting tools like PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with Azure Cloud Technologies such as Power Apps and Dataverse.
  • Ability to integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring data quality and security.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Stream Analytics.
  • Expertise in software development using C#, ASP.NET, Web Services/APIs.
  • Experience with Microsoft DevOps or GitHub and Azure Cloud Services certification or experience.
  • Prior experience with Java/.NET and JavaScript preferred.
  • Familiarity with Oracle and SQL databases.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
  • Educational background in computer science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or related fields; a bachelor’s or master’s degree required, with substitution of 3 years of experience possible.
  • Previous experience with Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is a plus.
