Welcome to Love's: The Data Scientist plays a critical role in advancing Love's customer analytics capabilities by driving deep understanding of customer behavior, loyalty, and lifecycle dynamics. As part of Analytics team, this role develops advanced machine learning and analytical solutions that shape customer strategy and influence key business decisions across the organization.

Job Functions:

  • Drive Strategic Decision-Making through Customer Insights
    • Analyze customer behavior across channels to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for growth
    • Develop and maintain customer segmentation and personas to support targeted strategies
    • Work closely with CX Research team to synthesize both qualitative and quantitative data
    • Provide insights into customer lifecycle dynamics, including acquisition, engagement, and retention
  • Develop Advanced Analytics Solutions
    • Design and deploy predictive models (forecasting, segmentation, optimization)
    • Utilize statistical languages (R, Python, SAS) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
    • Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to solve complex business problems and improve targeting
    • Enable AI-driven workflows and scalable decision-support tools
    • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
  • Enable Loyalty Marketing & Growth Strategies
    • Evaluate the performance and effectiveness of loyalty programs and promotional initiatives
    • Measure customer engagement, program adoption, and incremental impact on spend and visits
    • Generate recommendations to enhance program design and customer experience
  • Improve Efficiency Through Automation
    • Streamline and automate reporting and analytical workflows
    • Work with data engineering to build scalable data products that reduce manual effort and improve speed to insight
    • Support the creation and maintenance of a customer data platform to enable a unified customer view
    • Identify opportunities to apply AI across both new and existing work
  • Communicate Insights Clearly
    • Develop a deep understanding of Love's business, including products, customers, and performance drivers
    • Create compelling visualizations and presentations for cross-functional stakeholders
    • Deliver insights and recommendations in a clear, concise manner using meaningful visualizations that allows for business understanding and action

Experience and Qualifications:

  • BA/BS minimum, Masters preferred, in a relevant field, such as business analytics, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, management information systems, computer science, engineering or other quantitative fields
  • 3+ years experience preferred in analytics, data science or related field
  • Experience with data analysis, statistical modeling, or machine learning

Skills and Physical Demands: 

  • Proficiency querying data from relational databases using SQL
  • Competency using R, Python, or other similar statistical software to develop analytical solutions
  • Experience with data wrangling, data cleaning and prep
  • Awareness of Big Data concepts, tools, and architecture
  • Data modelling and business analytics experience
  • Excel proficiency including simple formulas and pivot tables
  • Understanding of data warehouse principles and database structures
  • Ability to develop clear, impactful visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools
  • Experience applying AI tools to improve efficiency, automation, and analytical output
  • Natural curiosity that welcomes and embraces change and willingness to try new things
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to devise an analytical approach to solving business problems
  • Expertise in translating data into business insights and recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to explain and simplify complex analytics for a wide range of audiences
