TITLE: PACES After School Care Director
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
  • Assist the After School Site Coordinator with the safe and effective operation of the after-school program
  • The Director provides supervision and instruction to children, leads age-appropriate activities, and supports students with homework
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS
Licensing/Certification:
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License
  • Basic School Age Care (BSAC) and Playground Safety Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Education:
  • High school diploma required
  • Associate's degree preferred

Experience:
  • At least five (5) years of successful experience in school-age care preferred
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures of Pender County Schools, as well as state and federal regulations
  • Work with after-school staff to maintain a safe, caring, and vibrant learning environment
  • Set up after-school centers daily, ensuring a tidy and organized space
  • Interact with and supervise children during program activities
  • Assist with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating after-school activities
  • Administer first aid to children as necessary to meet immediate health care needs
  • Maintain current certifications in CPR and basic first aid
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and other training sessions to fulfill professional development requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or Principal

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to lead and assist students in indoor and outdoor games and activities
  • Capable of using a variety of equipment such as computers, copiers, calculators, and projectors
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions
  • Proficient in basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape
  • Capable of coordinating hands and eyes quickly and accurately when using office equipment
  • Ability to deal with people effectively, including under stress
  • Physical ability to talk, hear, and react quickly to students from a distance
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and move objects regularly
  • Comfortable working in a school environment and interacting directly with students and staff
    REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator, Principal, After School Program Director

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk
  • The employee frequently needs to reach with hands and arms, and regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers for manual dexterity in an office environment
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust visual focus are necessary
  • Must be able to talk and hear effectively

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The employee works in an indoor school environment and has regular interaction with staff and students
  • Noise levels are typically minimal to moderate
  • Work involves sitting at office equipment and standing at files
  • Daily communication is required in person, by phone, and in writing

Salary Grade: Hourly
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
OSHA: The employee is not required to handle any human body fluids, biological agents, laboratory chemicals, or be exposed to hazardous materials like asbestos or carcinogens.
