Job description

Associate Pastor

New York Chinese Alliance Church (NYCAC) is an urban church located in Lower East Side, New York City. We are part of the Metro District of Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), USA. Our mission is to be a Christ-centered community with a missional passion and committed to display God's glory through worship, discipleship making, serving together, and reaching people for Christ (Matt. 28:19-20). Our vision is to see lives wholly sanctified and transformed by Jesus, so to bring renewal to home, community, New York City and beyond to glorify God (1 Thess. 5:23-24). We are seeking a full time Associate Pastor (AP) for our Cantonese congregation in cultivating and embracing emotional healthy spirituality.

To assist the Senior Pastor in leading the Cantonese congregation to execute and fulfill the mission in accordance with the vision and direction of NYCAC. To report ministry progress to the Senior Pastor, the Governing Board, and Diaconate on a regular basis for ongoing follow up. To lead believers toward wholistic growth.

Prayer Ministry

We in The Alliance understand that "prayer is the primary work of God's people." Our hearts must agree with His heart in order for His will to be accomplished in NYCAC. The AP engages and leads both staff and church prayers.

Shepherding

The AP assists the Senior Pastor in discipling and training leaders to build up the body of Christ. The AP regularly meets with congregants and shepherds them through pastoral care. The AP regularly seeks relationships with non-believers and grows in the context of his/her understanding of Lower East Side and the metropolitan area.

Preaching and Teaching

The AP preaches regularly in worship service and leads various seminars and Bible studies throughout the year as directed.

Group Ministry

The AP assists the Senior Pastor in recruiting, training, equipping, supervising and caring of group ministry leaders. The AP meets with group ministry leaders, cares for their own personal growth, and supports them to effectively lead their respective groups.

Local and Global Mission

NYCAC is called to be a Christ-centered community with a missional passion and committed to display God's glory through reaching people for Christ (Matt. 28:19-20). The AP engages and leads various local mission and global short-term mission trips.

Administration

To assist the church in executing administrative duties as directed. To attend pastoral staff/ GB/Diaconate meetings, retreat, and annual evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified leader (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Tit. 1:6-9; 1 Peter 5:1-3) who has a clear sense of God's call to full-time ministry (1 Sam. 3)
  • Theologically trained. Hold a Master of Divinity degree accredited by the Association of Theological Schools
  • Had 2-3 years of full-time pastoral experience after graduated from seminary
  • Fluent in reading and writing Chinese and English. Fluent in speaking Cantonese, and can communicate in Mandarin and English
  • Abide to the Doctrine, Distinctiveness, Alliance Polity, Alliance Statements and Perspectives of C&MA
  • Have a current C&MA accreditation or will begin C&MA licensing process with the Metro District once on staff
  • Fluency in Cantonese

  • Take faith-filled risks and adaptable to change (Heb. 11:6; 1 Cor. 9:19-20)
