Job description

FLSA Classification: Non Exempt, Part Time

Salary Range: $15-$16/hr DOQ

Reports to: Recreation Superintendent

Date: July 2026

 

Summary

The Before and After School Counselor creates a safe, fun environment for school aged children. Under the guidance of the Recreation Superintendent, Counselors’ are primarily responsible for providing and implementing a high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum in specific program areas, ensuring children’s social, physical and mental development in the program. 

Essential Duties

  • Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the age of the children in the program.
  • Responsible for the safety of the children in the program.
  • Know health emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
  • Assist in homework help and tutoring needs.
  • Responsible for the safety of the children in the program.
  • Drive company vehicle as needed

 

Hours

Position is part time, approximately 15-30 per week depending on programs

Work environment

This job will be performed indoors in a temperature controlled setting. At times, job tasks will include participating outdoors with varying weather conditions. Work environment may be loud at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; bend; kneel; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; and carry materials. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to communicate with co-workers and parents/guardians. Must be able to perform assigned tasks.

 

Education and Experience

Some High School Education required


Additional eligibility requirements

  • 16 years of age or older 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age to drive a company vehicle. Illinois Graduated Driver License rules will apply
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Complete DCFS Mandated Reporter Training upon hire
