We are currently looking for dynamic Certified Teachers for Grades 1-2 and 3-5 to teach our after school STEM classes in the Kyrene district - Tempe, Chandler, and Ahwatukee, Arizona areas. The class you teach will depend on your interests and the existing class schedules and curriculum. Classes include topics such as Robotics, Coding, 3D Printing, Virtual Reality, Graphic Design, Wizard Science, Science of Bubbles, STEM Challenges, Space Science, and more. Aside from teaching the classes your time will also include prepping materials (at home), setting up the classroom, cleaning up after class and taking all mobile supplies with you. Additionally, you'll ensure that each Nerd gets safely to the appropriate destination after class.

Details:
  • Nerding is currently at 10 Kyrene schools in the Chandler, Tempe, and Ahwatukee areas.
  • You would teach 1 class per school quarter at 3 to 5 different schools.
  • Classes are 6 weeks long and meet once a week.
  • Class times are roughly Mon-Fri 2:15-3:45 (wed at some locations is 12:00-1:30)
  • Each class will have a max of 20 Nerds with 1 teacher and 1 adult assistant to help you.
Requirements:
  • Certified Teacher (Some exceptions)
  • 2-5+ years classroom experience
  • Available 3-5 weekdays per week
  • MTThF 2:00-4:30, W 12:00-2:30
  • Current AZ fingerprint clearance
  • CPR Certified (preferred)
  • Good classroom management skills
  • Energetic and engaging
  • Encourages student learning and participation
  • Love teaching and learning STEM!
Start Date:

Always hiring! Just apply and we will discuss possible start dates.

Schedule:

An ideal candidate would be available a minimum of 3 days per week, Mon-Fri, 2:00pm-4:00pm. Classes are 90 min from 2:15-3:45. This is perfect for someone who subs, has 2 hours of time in the afternoons, or is recently retired looking to stay connected to teaching!

Pay:

$40/hr = $480/class

If you teach at 5 schools all school year there is a $400 bonus, this translates to $10,000 total earnings.

Training:

Prior experience teaching science and STEM topics is a plus. The curriculum is complete and we will provide extensive one on one training. You may also shadow classes and co-teach until you are comfortable leading a class on your own!

We have curriculum for grades 1-2 and 3-5. Let us know which grades you prefer to work with.
