Job description

ProcessBarron is a recognized industry leader in bulk material handling, air handling, and industrial process solutions. For decades, we have designed, engineered, manufactured, and installed custom equipment for power generation, pulp and paper, wood products, and other heavy industrial markets throughout North America.
We are currently seeking two experienced Material Handling Designers/Drafters to join our Engineering Department in Pelham, Alabama. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced design technologies including CAD software, 3D modeling, laser scanning equipment, drones, and other state-of-the-art engineering tools while contributing to innovative projects across a wide range of industries.
Position Summary
The Material Handling Designer/Drafter is responsible for the design, detailing, and development of bulk material handling equipment and supporting structures. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, fabrication personnel, vendors, and customers to create accurate drawings and documentation that support manufacturing, installation, and project execution.
The ideal candidate combines strong drafting skills with practical knowledge of mechanical equipment, fabrication methods, and industrial design practices.
What You'll Do
Design and detail bulk material handling equipment including:
Belt conveyors
Drag conveyors
Screw conveyors
Rotary feeders
Chutes and hoppers
Silos and bins
Structural platforms, stairs, and ladders
Create plant layouts, equipment arrangement drawings, and fabrication drawings.
Develop bills of materials (BOMs), manufacturing orders, and drawing release packages.
Produce detailed fabrication drawings including dimensions, welding specifications, machining tolerances, and flat pattern layouts.
Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, project management, and field personnel throughout project execution.
Support field measurements, equipment inspections, and installation activities as required.
Assist with operation and maintenance manual documentation.
Maintain drawing records and project documentation.
Participate in project meetings and customer discussions as needed.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of drafting or design experience.
Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D drafting.
Experience reading and interpreting fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
Strong understanding of welding, machining, and fabrication processes.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Structural detailing experience.
Experience designing industrial machinery or bulk material handling equipment.
Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software experience.
Knowledge of rotating equipment including motors, gear reducers, chains, and sprockets.
Engineering or technical design background.
Experience with plate work detailing, flat pattern development, and fabrication drawings.
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements & Travel
Ability to perform field measuring activities in industrial environments.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs and enter confined spaces when required.
Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Ability to obtain OSHA and/or MSHA safety certifications.
Occasional overtime as project schedules require.
Limited travel, typically less than once per month for 1 to 3 days
