Maintains computer-based transient model leak detection systems and pipeline simulation systems for liquid petroleum pipelines. Performs steady-state and transient hydraulic analysis, surge pressure evaluations, and waterhammer mitigation design to support safe and efficient pipeline operations.
Job Duties
  • Maintains and configures the leak detection software models for pipeline leak detection
  • Troubleshoots and supports pipeline hydraulic operations
  • Performs surge analysis and transient hydraulic modeling to evaluate pressure wave propagation, waterhammer effects, and pump start/stop scenarios; develops mitigation strategies including surge relief valve sizing and pipeline pressure rating assessments
  • Develops and maintains steady-state and dynamic hydraulic models to support pipeline capacity studies, drag-reducing agent (DRA) optimization, and operational feasibility assessments for contingency scenarios
  • Participates in the development of specifications and recommendations for process control applications
  • Configures software to support new functionality as well as participating installation and operation activities
  • Provides support on matters requiring immediate diagnostic response on critical system outages
  • Partners with Operations Control and Pipeline Integrity to determine assets and prioritization
  • Monitors and tunes the software leak detection models
  • Assists in ensuring the leak detection and rupture detection systems meet all applicable regulations
  • Maintains a dashboard with KPIs on the leak detection system performance
  • Partners with engineers and management to implement API 1175
  • Administers and leverages data historian platforms (e.g., OSIsoft PI, Seeq) to retrieve, trend, and analyze pipeline operational data in support of leak detection and hydraulic performance evaluations
  • Trains Control Room personnel on the leak detection system and pipeline hydraulics
  • Gathers, analyzes, interprets, acts upon, and disseminates pertinent data from the SCADA system, pipeline leak detection system and data historians
  • Maintains other SCADA-related layered apps as needed
  • Accepts after hour calls
  • Interfaces with operation departments to communicate and define their role in compliance efforts
