How much do african diaspora jobs pay per year?
What is the difference between African Diaspora vs African Studies Specialist?
| Aspect | African Diaspora | African Studies Specialist |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Often includes degrees in African or African American studies, anthropology, or related fields | Typically requires advanced degrees in African studies, history, or cultural studies |
| Work Environment | Research institutions, cultural organizations, NGOs, community programs | Universities, research centers, cultural institutions |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Used broadly in cultural, social, and community contexts | Academic and scholarly settings |
| Search & Comparison Intent | Understanding cultural connections, community work, or heritage | Academic research, teaching, or scholarly analysis |
While both roles focus on African-related topics, African Diaspora emphasizes community, cultural identity, and social issues related to people of African descent worldwide. African Studies Specialist typically involves academic research and teaching about African history, culture, and politics. The key difference lies in practical community engagement versus scholarly focus.

Application Instructions
A letter of application, in which candidates should discuss their interest in developing as a teacher and scholar in a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction. They should also discuss their potential to contribute to a college community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. To be assured of full consideration, all application materials should be received by September 15, 2026. Candidates will need to upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a 2-page teaching statement, transcripts (copies are acceptable), and provide email addresses for three references. What theories and techniques are most essential to engaging the realities and possibilities of Black life in the African diaspora? Questions about this search should be directed to the search chair, Professor John Thabiti Willis, at adssearches@grinnell.edu or 641-269-4803.
