Job description
The licensed medical esthetician administers customized and professional facial and body treatments, suited to their patients' specific concerns. They must possess a thorough knowledge of the skin, have excellent facial massage and extraction techniques and be willing to train on other aesthetic treatment services offered at our medical spa. The esthetician should possess excellent communication skills and be diligent in learning the product and treatment knowledge necessary to effectively assess their patients' cosmetic concerns and make informed skin care and treatment recommendations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure patients' health history has been documented, appropriate consent forms and photographs have been completed, and that patient has been properly screened by physician, APRN, or PA-C prior to initiating a treatment.
Perform skin examination and analysis, and answer patient questions to ensure that they are well informed, and a good candidate for the procedure. Provide safe and effective aesthetic services within scope of practice, ability, and skillset. Monitor patient during the procedure, and ensure they are aware of any possible adverse events to notify us of. Ensure treatments start and end on time and treat patients in a courteous and empathetic manner. Coordinate with other providers as appropriate for optimal patient outcomes and relationships.
Continue to grow and maintain your aesthetic knowledge by shadowing other providers and regularly attending all trainings and educational events. Seek out training opportunities to facilitate your ability to promote and sell retail services and products. Talk to each patient about our current specials.
Recommend an appropriate service and/or product for every patient prior to leaving the treatment room. Just before walking them up front, ask them if they would like to go ahead and get back on the schedule or grab that serum before they leave the spa. Example: You mentioned that the blackheads on your nose really bother you, did you want to go ahead and grab that Lytic treatment I recommended today? Example 2: Ideally, I would love to see you back in 4 weeks for your next facial, would you like to go ahead and book that today? Also always mention if they can save by getting a package of whatever treatment they are doing or want to do.
Keep all work areas clean and tidy, making sure that the treatment room and equipment are cleaned and sanitized properly after each use, and that linens are clean at all times. Place all wet linens in laundry area to dry after facials and wash/dry a load of laundry every Friday.
Communicate with patient care coordinators to ensure all parties are aware of the financial status of the patient at each appointment. Financial status includes any prepaid services, number of units being used, monies due, up sales, add on services or products, as well as, any manager approved discounts, credits, payment plans, trades or cash tips received.
Document all patient interactions in EMR system in a timely manner, including all pertinent treatment information. Ensure documentation is adequate and thorough to assist in the ease of flow of future patient interactions. Maintain confidentiality of patient's health information that is in compliance with HIPAA laws and company policies at all times and report any observed violations of these policies to management. Consider professional boundaries and appropriateness when dealing with clients on social media as well.
Prepare, and clean rooms, tools and equipment before and after each treatment. Clean and sterilize all tools and instruments according to protocol. Put all items away before leaving for the day. Shadow and assist other providers, as your schedule permits, with patient care, room turnover, stocking rooms etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Esthetician License Required
Minimum 1-2 years experience required
Outstanding customer service and friendly manner
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
