How much do aerospace loads dynamics engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for aerospace loads dynamics engineer in the United States is $108,638.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $88,500.00 and $132,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does an Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineer do?

An Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineer is responsible for analyzing and predicting the forces and loads that aircraft or spacecraft structures experience during various phases of operation. They use mathematical models, simulations, and test data to ensure that structures can withstand aerodynamic pressures, turbulence, and other dynamic events. Their work is essential for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and structural integrity of aerospace vehicles. These engineers often collaborate with design, testing, and flight teams to optimize performance and meet regulatory requirements.

What is the difference between Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineer vs Aerospace Structural Analyst?

AspectAerospace Loads Dynamics EngineerAerospace Structural Analyst
Primary FocusAnalyzing and predicting loads and dynamic responses of aerospace structures during various flight conditionsAssessing static and fatigue strength of aerospace structures based on stress analysis
Required SkillsDynamics, load analysis, finite element modeling, vibration analysisStress analysis, material properties, finite element analysis, structural integrity
Work EnvironmentDesign teams, testing labs, simulation softwareStructural testing facilities, simulation environments, design teams
Industry UsageDesign and certification of aircraft and spacecraftStructural integrity assessment and certification

While both roles involve analysis related to aerospace structures, the Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineer primarily focuses on dynamic load analysis and response during flight, whereas the Aerospace Structural Analyst concentrates on static and fatigue strength assessments. Both roles require similar technical skills and often collaborate during aircraft or spacecraft development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineer, you need a strong background in aerospace engineering, structural analysis, and advanced mathematics, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with tools like MATLAB, NASTRAN, and finite element analysis software, as well as familiarity with industry standards and certifications such as PE or EIT, is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret data accurately and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These competencies are critical for ensuring the structural integrity and safety of aircraft under various load conditions.

What are the typical challenges faced by Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineers when working on new aircraft designs?

Aerospace Loads Dynamics Engineers often encounter challenges related to accurately predicting and managing the complex aerodynamic, structural, and dynamic loads that act on new aircraft designs. These challenges require close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including aerodynamics, structures, and flight test groups, to ensure that design solutions are both innovative and safe. Additionally, adapting to evolving regulatory requirements and integrating cutting-edge materials or technologies can add complexity to the analysis and testing processes. Effective communication, attention to detail, and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring project success.

Job description

LOADS & DYNAMICS ENGINEER (STARSHIELD)
Starshield leverages SpaceX's Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is designed for government use, with an initial focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads.

In this role, you will work closely with Starshield responsible engineers as well as the Falcon dynamics team to drive hardware and mission design decisions and the reliable operation of Starshield satellites. This role will involve performing dynamic analysis, contributing to in-house codes, as well as hands-on testing. You will be responsible for all low- and high- frequency loads and vibration for the satellites during ground transportation, ascent/launch, and on-orbit operation. Strong candidates for this role will have excellent hardware intuition as well as experience with frequency-domain signal processing and analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Resolve dynamics problems through analysis and test
  • Execute dynamic testing from start-to-finish including pre-test analysis, sensor selection & installation, testing, data analysis, signal processing and model correlation
  • Build finite element models and run coupled loads analysis
  • Perform analyses using commercial and in-house codes as well as write new code
  • Perform other analyses as required such as satellite dispense, on-orbit jitter, fatigue analysis, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, or an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of professional experience with dynamics

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Hands-on experience either analyzing data or building hardware
  • Experience with vibration and shock testing
  • Experience with NASTRAN
  • Finite element modeling experience (use of FEMAP)
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and test, including a fundamental understanding of strength, stability and fatigue failure mechanisms
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Loads and Dynamics Engineer/Level I: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Loads and Dynamics Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
