This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.
As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the configuration of a Reentry System. As a Principal Aerospace Systems Engineer, you will have a direct impact on the design and operation of future Blue Origin missions. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the definition, integration, and configuration of complex Reentry System hardware and software.
  • Decompose and allocate system-level requirements into detailed subsystem requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and manage critical interface control documents (ICDs) and system-level drawings.
  • Oversee system integration, verification, and validation planning and execution for the Reentry System.
  • Lead system-level safety analyses, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Present at and lead major gated reviews (e.g., System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review) to report on technical readiness and progress.
  • Define and manage the overall system configuration, ensuring all components work together to meet mission objectives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical challenges throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in the design, development, and integration of complex aerospace systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering for a complete product lifecycle, from concept to operation.
  • Proven ability to lead and present at major technical design reviews.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field.
  • Direct experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle reentry systems, including thermal protection systems (TPS), guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), or high-temperature structures.
  • Experience with system-level ownership, including hardware/software integration and qualification.
  • Proficiency in system analysis and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, STK).
  • Experience with requirements management and verification tools (e.g., DOORS Next Gen).
  • Strong understanding of and experience applying relevant industry standards (e.g., NASA, ASME, AWS).
