Job description

Description:

RAM Aerospace has been powering flight and space exploration since 1975, delivering precision solenoids, valves, actuators, LVDTs, and RVDTs for commercial, defense, and space applications. Operating from facilities in St. George, Utah and Valencia, California, we build mission-critical components that the world's leading aerospace programs depend on. Join a team that builds the future of aerospace, on time, with excellence. Your career takes off here!

As the Quality Engineer (Cleanroom), you are the guardian of purity and precision for our most sensitive flight hardware. You will oversee the quality of products manufactured within our ISO Class 7 cleanroom, ensuring every valve and actuator meets the rigorous cleanliness, performance, and customer specifications that spaceflight demands. This is not a passive role. You will be on the floor collaborating with design engineers during design reviews, serving as the Quality Engineering focal point across Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Test Systems, and Operations, and hosting customer visits and on-site manufacturing readiness reviews. You will lead containment and root cause investigations for non-conformances, present findings to stakeholders and customers, and drive a culture of continuous improvement. If you have a detective's mind for problem-solving and a passion for zero-defect manufacturing, we want you on the team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design Collaboration & Quality Focal Point: Collaborate with design engineers during design reviews, manufacturing process creation, customer visits, and post-production support. Serve as the Quality Engineering focal point for assigned programs, interfacing across Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Test Systems, and Operations to keep quality considerations embedded throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Cleanroom Process Control: Maintain and improve the quality system specifically for ISO Class 7 cleanroom operations. Champion contamination control protocols, FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention, and ensure strict compliance with relevant ISO cleanroom standards.
  • Containment & Root Cause Analysis: Lead containment efforts for non-conforming material to stop the spread of quality issues immediately, then lead the investigation of non-conformances and equipment failures. Utilize structured problem-solving tools including 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone to identify root causes and drive corrective and preventive actions that prevent recurrence.
  • Findings Presentation & Stakeholder Communication: Present corrective actions, investigation results, and process improvements to internal stakeholders and external customers when required. Communicate diplomatically and effectively, both verbally and in writing, at all levels, from the technician on the bench to the customer program manager.
  • Compliance & Documentation Review: Review, interpret, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, engineering drawings, customer contract requirements, and product test procedures. Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to ensure manufacturing processes are capable of meeting complex engineering design specifications.
  • Auditing & Manufacturing Readiness: Perform internal audits of assigned programs and support preparation for external audits. Prepare for and host customer visits and on-site manufacturing readiness reviews, acting as the technical voice of RAM Quality.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continued improvement of the quality system and manufacturing processes to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Initiate Lean and Six Sigma improvement activities to reduce scrap, improve yield, and lower the cost of poor quality.
Requirements:
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline required, mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, measuring, and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Whys, or Cause and Effect methodologies within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Cleanroom or aerospace manufacturing experience highly preferred.
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) experience preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training preferred, with certified Green or Black Belt strongly preferred.
  • AS9100/ISO9001 experience preferred.
  • Electrical and mechanical assembly background or experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively at all levels.
