What is an AEM developer?

AEM Developers are specialized software engineers who design, develop, and maintain websites and applications using Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), a comprehensive content management solution for building digital experiences. They are responsible for creating custom components, templates, and workflows within the AEM platform, integrating third-party services, and ensuring high performance and security. AEM Developers work closely with designers, content authors, and other developers to deliver seamless, user-friendly web experiences for organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by AEM developers when working with large-scale content migrations?

AEM Developers often encounter challenges such as managing complex data structures, ensuring data integrity, and maintaining high performance during large-scale content migrations. Coordinating with content authors, QA teams, and stakeholders to minimize downtime and prevent data loss is essential. Additionally, developers must be well-versed in AEM's import/export tools and scripting to automate and streamline the migration process, all while adhering to best practices for security and scalability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AEM developer?

To thrive as an AEM Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java, web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and experience with Adobe Experience Manager, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with tools like Apache Sling, OSGi, Maven, and version control systems, along with Adobe certifications, are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help developers collaborate effectively and translate business needs into technical solutions. These technical and soft skills ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, and user-friendly digital experiences for clients and end-users.

What does an AEM developer do?

As an AEM developer, you design, develop, and test software that uses Adobe Experience Manager. AEM is a content management system part of the Adobe Marketing Cloud. It can be used alone to manage a company's data or in conjunction with other Adobe products, including Adobe Target, Adobe Analytics, Adobe Media Optimizer, and Adobe Audience Manager. In this role, you may integrate AEM with a website or existing application, test each build to evaluate its performance, enhance existing systems, and help debug faulty code. You may manage a small team of programmers while helping create software that meets your client's needs. AEM developers often use responsive frameworks, agile methodologies, and front-end development techniques like customized templates and JCR queries to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Senior C# / .NET Software Engineer
Job Description

Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
Type: Full-time
Schedule: Flexible hours
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with three days per week in our Layton office
Location: Layton, Utah

About Guru Technologies

Guru Technologies is a Utah-based software engineering and technology consulting firm helping organizations solve complex business challenges through custom software development, artificial intelligence, cloud engineering, data & analytics, quality engineering, DevOps, mobile applications, enterprise integrations, and digital transformation.

For over 20 years, we've partnered with organizations ranging from innovative startups to Fortune 500 enterprises. Our mission is simple: build exceptional technology while creating long-term partnerships built on trust, technical excellence, and measurable business outcomes.

At Guru, you'll work alongside experienced software engineers, architects, designers, and technology leaders who are passionate about solving meaningful business challenges. We believe our people are our greatest asset and are committed to creating an environment where collaboration, continuous learning, and long-term career growth thrive.

About the Role

Guru Technologies is looking for an experienced C#/.NET software engineer who can design, build, and deliver reliable software using both strong engineering fundamentals and modern AI-assisted development tools.

This role is not primarily about memorizing syntax or framework trivia. AI can now generate substantial amounts of code, but experienced engineers are still needed to understand the business problem, design the right system, direct the work, identify risks, and verify that the final result is secure, maintainable, and production-ready.

We are looking for someone with a strong systems-engineering mindset who can take an unclear or complex problem, develop a sound technical approach, break it into manageable pieces, and use both people and AI agents effectively.

Hands-on exposure to tools such as Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar solutions is expected. These tools are new, so we do not require years of experience with them. We do expect candidates to demonstrate meaningful experimentation and explain how they have used AI to solve real engineering problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software using C#, ASP.NET Core, .NET, APIs, relational databases, and related web technologies.
  • Participate in the full software lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through deployment and production support.
  • Translate business needs into clear technical plans, system designs, data models, APIs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Evaluate tradeoffs involving scalability, security, performance, cost, complexity, and maintainability.
  • Use AI coding assistants and agents for appropriate tasks such as planning, implementation, testing, debugging, refactoring, documentation, and code review.
  • Provide AI agents with clear context, constraints, architectural direction, and expected outcomes.
  • Review and validate AI-generated code rather than accepting it at face value.
  • Identify hallucinations, incomplete implementations, unnecessary complexity, security risks, and regressions.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, infrastructure, monitoring, and production systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, and clients.
  • Mentor less-experienced developers and help improve engineering practices across the team.
  • Occasionally contribute to front-end applications using HTML, CSS, TypeScript, React, Angular, or similar technologies.

AI tools are expected to improve your output, not replace your judgment. Engineers remain accountable for the software they deliver.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, APIs, and relational databases.
  • Experience designing and delivering production software from initial concept through deployment.
  • Strong understanding of architecture, data modeling, API design, testing, debugging, source control, and software security.
  • Ability to understand complex interactions across applications, databases, cloud infrastructure, and third-party systems.
  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or a comparable cloud platform.
  • Familiarity with Git, pull requests, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Hands-on exposure to at least one modern AI-assisted or agentic development tool.
  • Ability to demonstrate how you have used AI to investigate, design, implement, test, debug, or improve software.
  • Ability to critically review AI-generated output and verify that it works correctly.
  • Strong problem-solving, systems-thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction while remaining collaborative and accountable.

We care more about engineering judgment, problem-solving, and the ability to validate results than memorized syntax or obscure framework knowledge.

Helpful Experience

  • Docker and containerized applications.
  • Infrastructure as code using AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • AWS ECS, Fargate, Lambda, or comparable Azure services.
  • Domain-driven design, clean architecture, onion architecture, or similar approaches.
  • React, Angular, Vue, TypeScript, or other modern front-end technologies.
  • Distributed systems, queues, background processing, or microservices.
  • Legacy application modernization.
  • AI APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, structured outputs, tool use, or workflow automation.
  • Repository instructions, MCP integrations, reusable agent workflows, or multi-agent development.
  • Consulting, professional services, SaaS, construction technology, or enterprise software experience.
  • Experience working directly with clients to clarify requirements and recommend solutions.

Education

A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is helpful but not required. Relevant experience and demonstrated ability are more important than a specific degree.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and demonstrated capability.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Hybrid work with three days per week in our Layton office.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Opportunities to work across a wide range of industries, products, and technologies.
  • Access to modern AI-assisted engineering tools.
  • A collaborative culture that values strong engineers, sustainable work, and long-term professional growth.

Applying

Please submit your resume and be prepared to discuss:

  • A significant system or feature you helped design and deliver.
  • A difficult technical tradeoff you made.
  • An AI-assisted development tool you have used.
  • A specific example of how you used it.
  • How you reviewed and validated the resulting work.

Applicants are not expected to be experts in every technology listed. We are looking for experienced engineers with strong fundamentals, sound judgment, practical AI exposure, and the ability to continue learning as software development evolves.
