Systems Integration Engineer, Principal
LOCATION: WPAFB, Dayton, OH
JOB STATUS: Full-Time
CLEARANCE: Top Secret, Must be a US Citizen
TRAVEL: 10-20%
Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Systems Integration Engineer, supporting the Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Program AFLCMC/WIS Asymmetric Warfare Division. This program focuses on advancing, sustaining, and modernizing the Air Force's small UAS portfolio to meet evolving operational needs across multiple mission sets. This role is onsite at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in a related field and at least 15 years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, 12 years of which must be in the DoD.
  • OR bachelor's degree in a related field and 20 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, 15 years of which must be in the DoD.
  • OR, 30 years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the PWS labor category performance requirements, 20 years of which must be in the DoD.

Responsibilities:
  • The Contractor will apply the principles, criteria, and procedures of Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 5000.1 and DoDD 5000.2R as well as the policies and processes of Headquarters (HQ) AFMC and AFLCMC Engineering Directorate to all SOF acquisition engineering tasks. The Contractor will possess and demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services. The Contractor will provide advisory assistance in developing system concepts, and in performing technological/trade-off study assessments of proposed designs.
  • The Contractor will assist with providing technical support in planning, analyzing, and evaluating efforts used to define total weapons systems/subsystem requirements, translate requirements into design criteria, evaluate alternative design approaches, develop system specifications, and perform technological/trade-off study assessments of proposed designs to include airworthiness (and tailored airworthiness criteria).
  • The Contractor will provide support in developing system performance requirements, objectives and integration, and the estimation of time and resources for system design, development, and support.
  • The Contractor will apply expertise in the field of engineering and extensive knowledge of the assigned functional area to assist in resolving unique or novel problems related to design and development engineering including having knowledge of: the principles of planning and program management; standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and other engineering disciplines used in support of sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs.
  • The Contractor will assist in performing technical planning, system integration, risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for the SOF system (includes full weapons system trainers, operational flight trainers, avionics desktop trainer, courseware, and maintenance training devices).
  • The Contractor will assist with and perform providing engineering leadership and technical direction in the development of systems using large-scale distributed and virtualized environment.
  • The Contractor will have experience in the development of systems utilizing networking principles and implementation, including but not limited to Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
  • The Contractor will be experienced with development on Windows, Sun, Linux or Unix platforms, including but not limited to C/C++ and Java.
  • The Contractor will be knowledgeable in and assist with providing guidance for Information Assurance (IA) accreditation and implementation of IA controls for individual projects up to and including ACAT 1 Platform Information Technology (PIT) systems.
