Job description

Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government.

Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Adventure Outings Student Trips Driver.This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is$16.90per hour.The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico and maintain at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student) throughout the course of employment.

Adventure Outings Student Trips Driver

SUMMARY

The Adventure Outings (AO) Student Trips Driver supports the safe and efficient operation of the Adventure Outings program by transporting participants, staff, and equipment to and from trips, workshops, events, and trainings. Working under the direct supervision of the Adventure Outings Program Director, this position plays a critical role in ensuring timely departures, safe travel, and positive participant experiences. Drivers serve as ambassadors of the program and contribute to a culture of safety, professionalism, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Safely transport Adventure Outings participants, staff, and program equipment using AO vans and trailers to and from designated locations
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and trailer inspections, completing all required safety and documentation procedures
  • Assist with loading, securing, and unloading gear and equipment as needed
  • Maintain compliance with university, state, and program transportation policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with trip leaders, staff, and participants regarding schedules, routes, and logistics
  • May be assigned to provide driving support for other Associated Students (AS) programs or university departments as needed

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in Adventure Outings vans while driving on city streets, highways, freeways, and occasional rural or back-road conditions. The position may involve irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on trip schedules. Drivers may be present at outdoor events, meetings, or activity locations and should be comfortable working in varying weather and environmental conditions.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Physical requirements include manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to sit for extended periods while driving. Occasional lifting, bending, and carrying of gear may be required. Clear verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires travel to and from Adventure Outings trip locations within the greater Chico area and throughout California.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum age of 19 years
  • Possession of a current, valid, driver's license
  • At least two years of licensed driving experience
  • Acceptable DMV driving record
  • Successful completion of the CSU Learn online driving course
  • Successful completion of Adventure Outings van and trailer driver training
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, adhere to safety protocols, and remain calm in dynamic situations
  • Enrollment in UNIV389 AO Internship Course preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be currently enrolled at Chico State in a minimum of 6 units (undergraduate) or 4 units (graduate student)
  • Must meet age and driving experience requirements at the time of hire
