What is advanced urology?

Advanced urology refers to specialized medical care and procedures for diagnosing and treating complex conditions of the urinary tract and male reproductive system. This field utilizes the latest technologies, such as robotic surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and advanced imaging, to treat issues like prostate cancer, kidney stones, incontinence, and other urological disorders. Urologists specializing in advanced urology are trained to handle challenging cases that may not respond to standard treatments, offering patients more effective and less invasive options for better outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in advanced urology, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in advanced urology often encounter challenges such as staying up-to-date with rapidly evolving surgical technologies, managing complex patient cases, and balancing a high patient load with administrative duties. Addressing these challenges involves ongoing education through conferences and workshops, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, and utilizing support staff effectively. Many urologists also find that mentorship and networking within professional organizations help them stay informed and supported as they advance in their careers.

Job description

Advanced Practice Providerย OpportunityChesapeake UrologyGermantown, MD

Jobย Summary

Occupation:ย Nurse Practitioner orย Physicianย Assistant

Specialty: Urology

Clinic Location:ย Germantown, MD

Employment: Full-Timeย | Mon-Fri

Setting:ย Private Practice, Outpatient/Inpatient

Board Certifications: NP-C/PA-C

Ideal Candidate:

  • 2+ years of patient-facing clinical experience in a hospital, outpatient, surgical, or specialty practice setting
  • Urology experience as an RN or APP strongly preferred
  • Passionate about Men's Health and Urology
  • Interested in developing specialized expertise in sexual medicine and andrology
  • Seeking a long-term career opportunity
  • Resides in or has strong ties to the Germantown/Montgomery County area
  • Comfortable discussing sensitive men's health concerns and building trusted patient relationships

About the Role

Chesapeake Urologyย is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join its urology team with a clinical focus on both men's sexual health and general urology. In this role, you will work closely with physicians to provide patientcentered care through evaluations, followup visits, and treatment planning across outpatient and inpatient settings. The practice offers a collaborative environment where APPs are supported, encouraged to grow clinically, and play an integral role in delivering highquality urologic care. This opportunity is well suited for an APP who values teamwork, patient relationships, and developing expertise within a wellestablished urology group.

This is a rare opportunity to train directly with Dr. Devang Sharma, a fellowship-trained Andrology and Men's Health subspecialist, within the largest urology practice in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Unlike many APP positions, this role offers a structured mentorship pathway designed to develop the APP into a specialist in Men's Sexual Health and General Urology. Dr. Sharma is committed to investing significant time in teaching and professional development, making this an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about urology and interested in building a long-term career within the specialty.

Working in a true physician-extender model, the APP will train alongside Dr. Sharma while gaining experience in advanced Men's Health therapies and procedures. Over time, the APP will develop increasing autonomy and become an integral part of a growing subspecialty practice. Exposure to women's sexual health may also be available based on interest and practice needs

What a Typical Week Looks Like

This is a hybrid outpatient and inpatient role.

Most days will be spent alongside Dr. Sharma in the Germantown office evaluating patients, managing follow-up care, and supporting a high-volume Men's Health practice. The APP will also periodically provide inpatient coverage and postoperative support at local hospitals.

The goal is to develop the APP into a trusted clinical partner with specialized expertise in Men's Health and Urology, rather than assigning routine, low-complexity visits with limited growth potential.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

  • Direct mentorship from Dr. Devang Sharma, a fellowship-trained Men's Health and Andrology specialist
  • Rare opportunity to develop expertise in sexual medicine, prosthetics, reconstructive urology, and advanced therapies
  • Structured clinical training and professional development
  • Exposure to shockwave therapy, injection therapy, prosthetics, and reconstructive procedures
  • Collaborative physician-extender model with significant patient interaction and continuity of care
  • Productivity-based compensation opportunities
  • Long-term career growth within a nationally recognized urology practice

Chesapeake Urology is seeking an APP who is excited to invest in a long-term career in Men's Health and Urology and who can thrive in a highly collaborative environment.
